Yeah, you probably had a better vantage point than the home plate umpire and ESPN's pitch tracker. They were borderline but they weren't crap calls.

So, who wants to take bets on what Lou's overreaction of the day will be after this loss?

My money's on demoting Marquis to the long man role and going to the four man rotation.

Can he demote Marquis to another team?

I vote for this option.

As I said before, who are we going to believe? An objective system or the partisan eyes of fans watching from a skewed camera angle.

I'll go with "whichever knows that Lee isn't a 5'9" man with little shins

Yeah, you probably had a better vantage point than the home plate umpire and ESPN's pitch tracker. They were borderline but they weren't crap calls.

They were terrible. The fact that umpires aren't willing to adjust the zone as the rules say they must doesn't make it ok, it means umpires suck at their jobs.

And the inevitable losing two of three to the Reds will just cap this terrific week of Cubs baseball.

Well we are facing Harang, Cueto and Voloquez so yeah. 1 out of 3 would be lucky.

The Cardinals are going to win the division. I can just feel it. It will be the most befuddling of all their crap titles.

care to wager?

this offer is open to the whole board.

I'm not even close to taking it, but I am greatly disappointed with how this team has played in the last 2 weeks.

EDIT: Especially considering our rotation, with Hill in flux and Marquis continuing to suck in short outings, a 2 week tailspin can mean worse things in the future

chalk it up as a slump

aramis isnt even around

The last pitch was definitely a strike. Lee takes strike 3 looking far too much late in games.

It was borderline but when your team is down to its last strike, you can't chance it.

No one's eyes are qualified to tell the relative location of a pitch to within inches when looking from a funny angle, compressing a 3-D image into 2-D.

No. It means that many fans overreact to pretty much anything that goes against their teams and will place blame on virtually anyone.

And how is that relevant? Do you want to bet that pitches 2" lower on people 6" shorter were routinely called strikes?

Actually, I say this as a tall guy, not a Cubs fan. Umpires are totally incapable, for whatever reason, of adjusting their zone as they are required to in order to deal with the heights and dimensions of the batter

We're not playing well and we go to Cincinnati where we suck and than play the D-Backs and the Padres. I'm scared. I don't know if we'll be 500 at the end of the next two weeks

Yeah. Because MLB just decided to skip over the "adjusting the zone based on a player's height" chapter in umpire school. That sure sounds realistic.

It's almost like they don't fire umps for calling balls and strikes badly.

They don't.

Froemming stayed employed all those years, and CB Bucknor and Angel Hernandez still have jobs.

I just hope this team can survie the 7 games vs the D Backs and Padres before being graced with another 3 game Pirates series.

the khalils are 12-20

i piss my pants thinking about that matchup

So the Cubs have outscored the opposition in 3 straight series, yet have lost all 3. Out of the last 7 losses, 6 have been by 2 runs or less (the other was by 3). It seems that early season magic is long gone. We should be about 10 games over right now, if not more.

isn't it a good sign that we're still outscoring our opponents even when we lose? it should indicate we're just not catching breaks.

Or, possibly, that our "good" bullpen members are bad.
