It's like the Baseball Gods sat down and said, "How can we screw over Cubs fans this season? What haven't we pulled before?"

And they decided on making the manager an idiot, have superior players on the bench for no apparent reason, and make the Cardinals just a bit better for no apparent reason.

It's a riff off the 2004 season, one of their favorites.

What cracks me up is that all this blow up for Theriot being called out but in reality he was safe. If the call was right, would the blow up be on Theriot? Nope. Let's redirect our anger here folks and not use it as an excuse to continue the tirade on Theriot.

The throw beat him by a mile. He's not fast and he really hasn't shown that he's a good base-stealer.

DeRosa (Ground out to SS/3B)

Soto (Double)

Fontenot (Single, Soto to 3rd)

Not Cedeno (K)

Soriano (K)

You got the first part right.

He was horrible at stealing in the minors, too.

wrong again.

You have a very interesting perspective on what constitues a good basestealer.

theriot is dumb to steal. though he's been good this year in most facets except for that one.however, the guy's swing annoys me.

OMFG DONT STEAL BASES THERIOT YOU SUCK AT IT

he doesn't actually.

83% (or so) for his career (59 attempts) but 7 for 12 this year... He's been pretty good and this year he has been terrible

70% in the minors. The evidence is pretty mixed.

70% isn't terrible, though. And 83% is pretty good. Therefore, he's not terrible. May not be great, but he's certainly not terrible.

On the replay they showed after the break, it looked like he was out easily. He was tagged up high, but his foot was still a ways away from the bag.

It was also a relatively bad throw from an off-balance catcher.

the reality of it is that he's got slightly above average speed and pretty good instincts on the basepaths. he is an adequate base stealer but neither he nor anyone else on this team should be running on molina.

I wonder, how odd is it to have much higher SB% in the majors when you didn't get real playing time until your late 20s? Should be uncommon/improbable, right?
