He's on pace for 23 HRs in a sub-500 AB full season. He's got a .927 OPS.

With today's HR, he has tied his career high in HRs with 4. On May 7th.

 

He has never had a SLG over .358 in any season in his career. This season he has a .518.

 

I honestly think he was just like "dammit, I suck, I'm going to pump myself up with roids and hit a bunch of dingers until I fail a drug test and then call it a career."

Seems plausible. I don't think he was gonna get many more chances after this season anyway. He probably just said, "Screw it all, I'm going out in a blaze of glory."
