I don't have a problem letting superstitions take a back seat for once.

They aren't real.

I agree but focus is real. Depending on the context of the question, the answer out of hand is harmless.

I understand why Lou wouldn't want his players inviting all the media attention that comes with talk of World Series at this time, but I don't understand why anybody else, including the media, could possibly have a problem with what Ronny said.

It's much better than contending within the division.

Hey there Cuse! Ordinarily I have your back sir, but I disagree with you here. Most Cubs teams I have watched for the past 22-odd years have had the lofty goal of getting fans in the seats. I'm excited when our players actually put winning as a priority. God bless you Ronny Cedeno. :)

It's amazing that the fanbase of a team who's unofficial motto is "Wait till next year" suddenly has a problem with a player who says their team is thinking World Series.

Maybe people would have been happier with "We're really aiming for a wildcard spot".

I would assume their goal every year is to get to the WS.

BTW, Ronny backed off of his statement:

"I'm taking that back," Cedeno said following the Cubs' 8-1 victory over the New York Mets of his World Series boast. "I went too fast. I was so happy last night, I talked about a World Series. It's very early. We've been doing great, and we have to keep going."

And the reaction from the team:

"As long as he doesn't talk 'World Series,' I'm happy," Piniella said.

"We'll have to get duct tape for him," DeRosa said of Cedeno's boast. "I'm happy he believes it. Ryan [Dempster] mentioned it in Spring Training, but it's early."

Hey Glass, nice to see you around again! I figured you'd come out of hiding when the Huskers got good again or the Cubs were doing well!

I don't think the players were thinking of just putting the fannies in the seats but I'm sure there was a time when management was.

It remains to be seen if he huskers will be good again, but Bo would have been my choice in 2004, and he was definitely my choice this time around. I'll take a .700 winning percentage and one of the best offenses in baseball 3 weeks in any day of the week though. I wasn't necessarily in hiding, just busy with my supervisor gig at PayPal and wrapping up my master of arts degree in leadership at Bellevue University (I have 1 class left tomorrow and then I'm done!!!!) How is life for you and Mrs. Cuse sir?

Well congrates on your masters and the supervisor gig!

Lifes good here. My bride is still the best move I've ever made and my cuse teams are young. Football wise, I'm not so keen on Robinson but he did recruit well and the basketball kids are young and good.

It's been fun watching the cubs do well over the past 20 games has it not? I do like Ronny thinking the Cubs can win it all but as far as I've seen, his focus hasn't really been that sharp so I would just like to see him play ball and keep working on getting better.

Any player who doesn't think about the world series is lying. Also, I bet that if Manny Ramirez or Derek Jeter said that same comment, nobody (the media) would care. I don't see why it's a big deal. The world series should be EVERY teams goal, regardless if it's actually obtainable. So ergo, everyone should be thinking about it.

I know I'd much rather hear "we want players that will get us to the World Series"

over

"we want players who can catch the ball"

Although, most players that can get to a World Series can catch the ball.

But not everyone who can catch the ball can get their team to the World Series.

That's cause Manny already has 2 WS rings, and Jeter 4.

Are you saying the only players that can think about being in the WS are players who have already been in the World Series?

I should qualify my comment that since Manny and Jeter plays for teams that have had WS success, of course the media won't care if they say that they want to continue that success. Cedeno plays for the team that infamously has the longest championship drought in professional sports. The always opportunistic media will of course milk his quote for all it's worth.
