I think A-Ram would have hustled there had it been he instead of Z who hit the DP ball. Or do you disagree?

I think he would have too. I have seen him do it. I just want to see him do it consistently.

Wilson A2000 is officially the worst poster

How'd the Cubs win Sunday?

an error?

Caused by...you are so close!

a bad throw by utley?

Posted (edited)

ok, seriously wilson. do you really want a slow running player to try to stretch an easy double into a triple when the ball is hit to LEFT FIELD? when aramis would have been thrown out at 3rd, you'd be the first one complaining about how aramis is a bonehead on the base paths. there's no reason at all aramis should have tried to stretch that into a triple. he'd have been out by a mile. he did nothing wrong.

i've watched the replay like 10 times now. he didn't jog out of the box. he might have hesitated for a split second before running, but he's running full blast when he starts.

Why did Utley say he made a bad throw? Why did DeRosa say he made a bad throw?

I never said that he should have tried to stretch it into a triple.

well, then you're complaining about him loafing when he wasn't.

go to the 7th inning of the play by play, and click the play button next to aramis ramirez's double. then tell me he loafed.

Why did Utley say he made a bad throw?

Because Z was running?

and any runner would have hustled to try and beat the double play.

So Ramirez is getting ragged on for not hustling on a double to left field, and simultaneously getting ragged on because he was "forced to" hustle once he saw it wasn't a home run? Am I following this correctly?

Yes. That's how he has gotten injured in the past. We are trying to stay healthy here.

I think this is what an aneurysm feels like.

Now we're catching on! So hustling does help a team win.

Did you forget how ARam got hurt last year loafing then running hard to first?

but what's your point? there is not one player in the game that wouldn't try to leg that out unless there was something else going on (serious leg injury or something that would physically keep them from doing so).

this is seriously the worst train of thought I think I've ever seen on nsbb. At least since the "he stabbed him but it was no big deal because it was a small knife" thread.

it doesn't hurt. now, getting on base, hitting home runs, pitching well, and playing good defense helps a team win about 5 million times more. i'll take a slow runner who gets on base and hits home runs over a hustler who sucks at getting on base and doesn't hit for power any day of the week.

but you're right. hustling CAN help a team win. but it's about 10th on the list of things that help a team win.

It's pretty unlikely that "hustling" out of the box is really going to mean the difference between a double and a triple. The instances where it actually would make a difference are probably few.
