It's been a rough two weeks for TB.

Baldelli and that diagnosis likely ending his career

Kazmir and his elbow problems on the DL for at least a month

Navarro cutting himself at Yankee Stadium and going on the DL

Floyd and his chronic knee problems on the DL

Garza and elbow problems likely to be re-evaluated

Aybar now on the DL.

I hadn't heard about the Baldelli diagnosis. What was it?

when is he expected to start? i have him on my fantasy team too

I believe that I read he will be starting today. However, I also read that his stay will likely be a short one as Tampa does not want to burn a year off his arby clock.

Per Rotoworld on March 12:

Rocco Baldelli will be sidelined indefinitely due to metabolic and/or mitochondrial abnormalities that leave him feeling extremely fatigued after even brief workouts.

Baldelli was on the verge of tears several times while discussing the details of what he called a life-threatening condition. "As far as my baseball career I'm not here to stand in front of you telling you I'm retiring,'' Baldelli said. "We're still going pursue any avenue that we can to try to figure out what is going on and have a better understanding of what is going on. But at this time throughout all of the extensive testing that we've done, we don't have a concrete answer." He'll be placed on the disabled list to start the season, and his career seems in jeopardy if Doctors can't diagnose the problem.

Wow. I hope doctors can find out what it is and at least treat it.

That has to be the worst feeling a pro athlete can possibly have.

Hit well in spring training? Get sent back to AAA. Hit .200 at AAA? Get called up!

As a cub fan, used to decisions based on small sample sizes instead of the larger picture, it is fairly puzzling.

how long does a player have to be in the minors to start the season for the team to buy an extra year on his arbitration clock? i don't think longoria was down long enough for that.

yeah i thought it was mid may or so.

he had better be as good as i expect him to be.

He will be, trust me. A couple of yrs back, when he was called up from I believe Bakersfield to Montgomery, his arrival essentially led the Biscuits to the first of two AA Championships. A great comp for Longoria, would be Ryan Braun. Won't be AS good offensively (won't be signifiicantly worse with the bat), but will be significantly better defensively then Braun.

Since the Rays AA team moved from Orlando to Montgomery, I thought there's been one better 3rd base prospect then Longoria, and that was Andy Marte. And yes I still believe Marte will be one heck of a 3rd baseman.

Hey guys, just wanted to come by and make sure you know that Evan Longoria, one of the top picks in the 2006 draft, is better than Felix Pie. He actually gets it.

he moved from Short-A to AA in about a month and a half. I missed seeing him play for (I think) Hudson Valley in the NYPL (I also missed Josh Hamilton on his short stay in Short-A post-rehab).
