Just wanted to add that I'm pretty sure Iowa is back in the starting rotation with Marshall going tonight. Burns was sheduled for last nights game as Iowa played a DH and pitchers would've been going on 4 days rest.

Thanks, I fixed it. And the I-Cubs website confirms that you're right.

Cubs call up Marshall, send down Pignatiello

By Paul Sullivan, 3:19 p.m.

PITTSBURGH -- Well, we got the answer to the fourth topic in my earlier post today.

Sean Marshall is in the locker room to take over the left-handed relief duties and Carmen Pignatiello was sent to the minors. Marshall had made one start for Triple-A Iowa (0-0, 0.00 ERA), pitching three scoreless innings. He didn't give up a hit and is still listed on the team's Web site as the probable starter tonight against Albuquerque.

Marshall went 1-1 with a 3.68 ERA in seven spring outings.

Pignatiello was on the Opening Day roster and pitched twice in relief (2.2 innings) with a 13.50 ERA.

The Cubs also have lefty relievers Neal Cotts and Les Walrond in Iowa.

I know at least craig finds these AZ Phil updates interesting so here's his most recent one.

Summary:

  • Chad Fox looked good again today and is close to heading up to a full-season team on rehab.
  • RHPs Larry Suarez (shoulder) and Oswaldo Martinez (elbow) threw their first bullpen sessions today. (Hopefully they'll both be ready for Boise in July.)
  • Mark Pawelek is out indefinitely with an ankle injury.
  • Josh Vitters hit a HR all the way out to the street during Monday's extended spring training game.
  • Looking at today's box score, RHP Yohan Gonzalez did not have as good an outing as last time (Yohan was the Cubs biggest Latin IFA signing last year). Vitters went 0/2 today. 3B John Contreras went 2/2 and hit a 420-foot HR.

Ryan Acosta has given up a lot of baserunners but only surrendered 1 run (on a solo HR) for Peoria. His final line: 3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 4 K/2 BB. I didn't realize he was such a groundball guy, he had 5 GO-0 FO tonight. Audy Santana fresh from Mesa pitched a scoreless 4th.

The Peoria offense has managed only 1 hit so far, a Marquez Smith triple.

It's good to hear that Suarez is finally throwing again.

And I'll just ignore that third point.

Just do as I do and pretend he never existed in the first place.

Peoria loses 1-0. Just three hits for the Chiefs. Ugly.

Daytona up 2-0 after 2. Ceda has struck out 4, but has also walked 3.

Tennessee is scoreless in the 3rd and Iowa is scoreless in the 2nd. Murton singled in his first PA.

Good gosh, does Ceda like walks and strikeouts.

Final line: 3 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 5 K/4 BB.

Oh, and Daytona has scored 3 runs.

Daytona gets the 7-4 win. Carter was 2/4 with a double and an RBI. Canzler drove in 3 and had a double.

Tennessee down 4-0 in the 8th. Smokies only have 2 hits and 4 errors. Chris Robinson has a double and Nate Spears has a single. Colvin is 0/1 with two BB's.

I-Cubs down 2-1 in the 8th. Piggy just got the final two outs in the top of the 8th. Fox homered for the only Iowa run so far. Murton is 2/4 and EPatt is 0/4 with 2 strikeouts.

Peoria is actually up 2-1 in the 5th. Rhee: 4 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 5 K's/0 BB's.

Colvin is 0/1 with two BB's.

You know that's one sign of the apocalypse, right?

Perhaps he got glasses in the offseason.

Tennessee goes down 4-1. Berg went 6 1/3, allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, walking 1, and striking out 2. Chris Robinson had the only RBI for the Smokies. Colvin finished 0/2 with those two walks.

Iowa just went final, losing 2-1.

Peoria up 4-1 heading to the 7th. Cliff Andersen hit a 2-run shot in the 4th.

1 ER

7 K's

0 BB's

For Rhee. No clue if he's going to come out for the 6th.

That was his final line.

DER proving me right for starting a thread solely devoted to him. :D

Second solid outing for Justin Berg, lot of grounders, not a lot of walks but not a lot of Ks either.

unless we send ronny and pie back to iowa, i think offense is gonna be hard to come by for pretty much all of our system.

Yeah, there's not a whole lot of hitting in our system. The Tennessee and Daytona lineups are especially horrid.
