Really...cool. Is there a charge for this or is it just the cost of the slingbox? Also, do you need any other stuff to make it get the signal? Thanks!

There is no monthly charge for the Slingbox. Just the cost of the unit. If you can get to the internet on your laptop, you can access your slingbox.

As for the hookup, it's just AV cables like anther AV equipment and an Ethernet cable to hook into your home network (to access your internet connection).

I'm not familiar with the slingbox. How does it handle changing channels? I might consider buying one.

So the slingbox is home and your laptop gets its signal and streams the cable for you, correct? Interesting, thanks. I might get one of these things the next time it's on woot. Are there different slingboxes, like HD or are they all the same?

There is a little software application that looks exactly like my tivo remote. I just type in the channel and it changes the channel.

As for the Hardware, the Slingbox come with the little IR bead thingy. It looks like the IR peice from the front of any remote. That IR thing plugs into the back of the Slingbox. When I change the channel over the web, the signal is sent through that and it changes the channel on the Physical TV/TIVO.

Yes the Slingbox sits at home. The Slingbox and your home internet connection stream the TV signal.

Once you connect to the internet with your laptop, you will be able to login into your slingbox and watch/control your TV.

That's good info, thanks.

The problem for me is, I imagine a slingbox-type-thing would work much better if it's plugged in to the network as opposed to wireless. ..and my TV sits well away from my network hub :(

I have never tried it over a wireless connection, but you can always buy a set of these:

These use the power lines in your house to make an ethernet connection. You will need one near the sling box and one in the other room by your hub.

Can somebody remind me to bring my freaking XM to work tomorrow.

is now too early?

I listened to the Blackhawks game last night, turned it off and said to myself, "hey, bring that to work tomorrow." And I still forgot the freaking thing.

I use slingbox on my phone or laptop and gameday audio from mlb.com.

How do you like slingbox?

I have a slingbox too. I love it. The picture is great. It's hooked into my tivo, so I can watch the games and all my tivo'd shows.

The one thing I didn't purchase is the ability to stream to my phone. That is an extra charge.

The mobile version works well, just as long as you have 3g and a phone with the appropriate operating system. I plug my phone into my car stereo to listen to the games in while I'm driving.
