  1. I have never tried it over a wireless connection, but you can always buy a set of these: http://web.belkin.com/support/product/?lid=en&pid=F5D4070&scid=223 These use the power lines in your house to make an ethernet connection. You will need one near the sling box and one in the other room by your hub.
  2. There is no monthly charge for the Slingbox. Just the cost of the unit. If you can get to the internet on your laptop, you can access your slingbox. As for the hookup, it's just AV cables like anther AV equipment and an Ethernet cable to hook into your home network (to access your internet connection). So the slingbox is home and your laptop gets its signal and streams the cable for you, correct? Interesting, thanks. I might get one of these things the next time it's on woot. Are there different slingboxes, like HD or are they all the same? http://www.slingmedia.com/ Yes the Slingbox sits at home. The Slingbox and your home internet connection stream the TV signal. Once you connect to the internet with your laptop, you will be able to login into your slingbox and watch/control your TV.
  3. There is a little software application that looks exactly like my tivo remote. I just type in the channel and it changes the channel. As for the Hardware, the Slingbox come with the little IR bead thingy. It looks like the IR peice from the front of any remote. That IR thing plugs into the back of the Slingbox. When I change the channel over the web, the signal is sent through that and it changes the channel on the Physical TV/TIVO.

  5. How do you like slingbox? I have a slingbox too. I love it. The picture is great. It's hooked into my tivo, so I can watch the games and all my tivo'd shows. The one thing I didn't purchase is the ability to stream to my phone. That is an extra charge. Can you watch cable TV on your laptop from a place around 100 miles away from your home/cable box? Yes. The Slingbox uses your High speed Internet connection to stream your TV. Basically, You are watching your TV over the Web. This year, my friend was working in the UK for 6 months during Bears Season. I gave him the login to my slingbox so he could watch the Bears play from his APT in London.
