Whaddaya know. The Sham Closer took the mound today after all.

Yes, but he did it in particularly shammy fashion, the sham.

I thought he was talking about the games yesterday. The idea that he might pitch in the next game was not clear.

It was perfectly clear to me and many others here. Can't help it if you weren't paying attention like the rest of us. [-X [-X I simply want the Cubs to win the division, the league and the World Series this year, that's all. To put any hope on having Wood as the closer, given his history of DL stints and who knows how many games he wasn't or won't be available, is bad decision making. Again, he has ZERO saves in his career.

I can't believe you're still running your mouth. In case you didn't hear, Wood pitched today. This thread was meaningless. Who cares how many saves he has in his career? I guess that means he won't ever get any... That is a ridiculous argument.

This thread is so bad it makes me want to go reread the entire Brian Roberts thread.

I hear they make you do that in hell... over and over for eternity

Nope...just once, but its infinitely long. And he's always thisclose to being traded.

Geez, don't you guys know anything about Kerry Wood? He only gets injured in the most bizarre ways possible. He would never be out with a stiff back just because he has a stiff back.

He'd be out with a stiff back because he was busy fighting an evil robot designed by his nemesis/former #1 fan on a remote tropical island the previous evening.

I heard it was a Mark Prior robot armed with a swinging towel.

you are all forgetting that KERRY WOOD HAS NEVER WON MORE THAN 13 GAMES IN A SEASON

He won 14 in 2003.

Shhhhh, the truth doesn't matter in this thread. The point is, Wood is a sham and the Cubs are doomed.

If Wood keeps his weight down and does the work to stay healthy, he should be fine. I trust Lou to put the best pen together and he'll use the guys in the right situations.

Wood hit hard in return to mound

March 21, 2008 THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

MESA, Ariz. -- The Chicago Cubs overcame a rough start by lefty Rich Hill and a mediocre effort out of the bullpen by luckless Kerry Wood.

"Hit hard" "Mediocre effort" "luckless" Ringing endorsements if I've ever heard them.

Full steam ahead, never mind the icebergs!

I understand that he has had an injured past and it does make me a little concerned. What I'd hate to see is Wood overcompensating for his back and hurting his arm or shoulder.

This is one of the dumbest things I've read on here in a long time, which is actually somewhat impressive.

I've seen worse. Heck, I've posted worse!

I admit, I'd like to see Woody have a year or 2 injury free myself. I agree that whatever the AP writes you take with a grain of salt though.

That's not even the point though. It'd be one thing if the AP said "Kerry's delivery looked bad and he was grimacing as he threw pitches."

But he is basing his irrational hatred of wood off of a couple of adjectives that the AP decided to use.

No worries, I'm on your side. My comments were about the thread.

Well, looks like the Sham Closer has clinched the closers job with scoreless innings on consecutive days. That is as long as he isn't sore when he wakes up in the morning. You know, cause he's brittle and stuff.
