That's right, it's time for a bigger, badder server for the 2008 season. The new server will have double the memory, four times the hard disk, eight times the processing and 25 times the bandwidth. This should mean quicker response times and more reliable service for what promises to be a great season.

It also means the site won't be available Saturday starting whenever I can get going on it. Sorry for the interruption, but it should be worthwhile in the long run.

Thanks!

And lasting until when?

Until it's done and the new server IP propagates through the net. Up to 24 hours, but not likely taking that long.

Just out of idle curiosity -- -- how well do you think all that new horsepower could handle an epically sized MySQL database in addition to its normal, forum-hosting duties?

Anyone want to post the link for the Temp NSBB site in advance. I want to talk to people if a Roberts trade goes down.

Emergency NSBB board

"Emergency" nsbb board. Recognizing the lack of this site for what it truly is. I like it.

Absolutely.

Let's talk through PM and get some plans going. Here's the charting package I'm going to pick up and use. :D

which host are you moving to? since we still haven't purchased any hosting, I'm still doing research... so I'd like to know what the nsbb will be running on. Especially since it's so db intensive.

You picked a good night to move the site. I will be extremely drunk at a Birthday party on Saturday, so I don't think I'll be anywhere near a computer that night. It will also keep me from drunk posting when I come home.

I thought being a member for this site carried over to that site automatically...nevermind. #-o

I've tested the move with the secondcityhoops.com site. I think the domain should be resolving to the new server for most people now. WindyCityFootball.com has also been moved and tested, though the domain is still resolving to the old server for me.

I'll be bringing down the site here in around an hour (or thereabouts) so we don't lose posts in the transition, but things appear to be going well so far.

Good luck.
