Given a choice of these 2 options, which would you rather see batting 2nd?

It's not a good choice but barring a trade one of these 2 will in Piniella's eye have to bat 2nd. Pie has more speed and power. Theriot is a little more selective. Theriot is probably a better base stealer and contact hitter. Both have shown the capacity to stink on ice.

If those were my 2 options for batting 2nd (which I believe they are since Lou doesn't want to put them both at the bottom consistently) then I would bat Pie 2nd against right-handers and Theriot 2nd against left-handers.

Neither option is particularly good, but Pie is the better overall hitter. I'd rather he get more PA than the abysmal Ryan Theriot.

Yeah, i agree with this.

I'd rather bat DeRo or Lee (with kfuk 3rd) second.

I would totally prefer someone who is an expert at hitting in the two-hole, which is totally different from the eight other positions in the lineup.

I'm abstaining from this vote. But on the Pie/Theriot front, it just bugs the heck out of me that Theriot has been given a job for basically doing the same crap job that cost Izturis his job, while Pie is reportedly in competition with Theriot Jr. out in CF. I don't have an incredible amount of faith in Pie myself, but there's no doubt he should get all the playing time over Fuld, and far more rope to hang himself than Theriot has been given.

I'd love to be able to watch the position battle from the dugout with Lou and hear what he has to say during the process. I wonder if Lou or any of the other coaches document/grade what's going on during the spring. I think it's a good way of having a tryout because you don't remember everything and the whole tryout is graded and not just the "key moments".

but, but batting order doesn't matter...

Except where people have pointed out that the hitters higher up see more AB's, and theoretically you want your better hitters getting more AB's, not potentially your crappiest hitter, like Theriot.

I guess you ignored that. Lay off the skyballing.
