the question was for clean hitters. i have little doubt in my mind Pujols and Arod are dirty.

Teddy Ballgame is the best argument against Manny, but I just don't buy the competition being comparable.

Wouldn't doubt it regarding Pujols....but A-Rod just seems like a once in a generation type of player.

if meph says that manny isnt a HOFer, it's probably because of his woeful defense and not because of his bat

If I remember correctly, Meph thought that Manny would have to hit 600 HR to make up for his defense.

Regardless of his defense, Manny is a first ballot HOFer. I know he's not the greatest defender, but he plays well in Boston.

He plays in Boston and has won two championships with them after they hadn't won it in 85 years and should have well over 500 HR before he's done. To me he's as much of a lock as they come.

Teddy Ballgame wasn't known for defense either.

why do you assume arod and pujols are dirty, but manny plays clean?

Because he wears a big baggy uniform and braids?

He's too lazy and "out there" to do steroids.

I agree. Barring a drug scandal or something like that, Manny is in.

It's probably because he likes Manny but doesn't like Arod and Pujols. It seems to be the modus de jour to accuse all great players that a person doesn't like as being a juicer whether there's any shread of credible proof or not.

And that - not the fact that some records may be tainted - is the true tragedy of the steroid era, imo.

Pujols goes from a 13th round pick out of some obscure JuCo to the greatest hitter in the game, and Arod's involvement with Boras and talks of "extensive offseason workouts" before the best season of his career, and coincedentally, a new contract are what cause me to be leery. Manny has stayed at a consistent level of offensive greatness his entire career and I've seen little reason to expect it was steroid-aided.

Don't be coy. Just say that Pujols and Arod look more muscley.

Top five hitters this century, IMO. Manny and ARod are nearly identical, ARod gets the nod thanks to health. David Ortiz basically on the strength of his last few years.

1. Barry Bonds

2. Albert Pujols

3. Alex Rodriguez

4. Manny Ramirez

5. David Ortiz

Manny's never really been number one. In the 1990s he was always second fiddle to Frank Thomas.

For comparison of Albert Pujols to Frank Thomas. In his first 7 seasons Albert Pujols has topped the .360 EqA mark once (.362 in 03). In Frank Thomas' first 8 seasons he dropped below the .360 EqA mark once (.355 in 93). In other words, the best Albert Pujols has been was the worst Frank Thomas was.

Wrap your head around that one.

Back to Bonds, the article says there will be a hearing on the 29th to discuss a motion to dismiss the case.

...which I must have been hiding under a rock to not have known about.

Anyway, how ridiculous is this? Dismiss the case? They've got him dead to rights. Slam freaking dunk.

Shouldn't the thread title be changed? It's been widely reported that the failed test was actually in November 2000 and that the inital report was due to a typo. The failed test in 2000 is nothing new.
