Wow...from the Trib:

...anybody doubting Jerry Angelo's resolve in the ongoing Brian Urlacher dispute probably didn't hear Angelo answering the question on WMVP-AM: "Is Brian Urlacher holding a gun to your head?" Angelo replied, "If he is, it's filled with water." That's pretty bold for a guy who isn't negotiating through the media.

That just strikes me as completely unnecessary.

Although the situation may well be different behind the scenes.

I would have preferred he just say something like no, I don't feel Brian is holding a gun to my head.

yea, Angelo seems flush-arrogant after the draft (in that comment). tone it down abit Jerry, you havent exactly proved you are God either.

i know it's ridiculous, but McShea (sp?) already has a 2009 Mock Draft up on espn.com, with the Bears taking Tim Tebow :pukel:

CNNSI has one too...Bears taking Dymetrius Byrd, WR, LSU.

It's an exercise in ridiculousness.

I don't see the problem. It's an early look at where these guys think the teams will be drafting (ie, how good or bad they will be in 2008), and what players people should keep an eye on this college football season.

Of course nobody has a crystal ball, which is why so many mocks made 2 days before the draft are inaccurate. But it covers two things that fans are always interested in, what players are going to be the best of the best next year, and how will NFL teams stack up against each other.

I guess I just dont put much value into it (mock drafts this time of year). things change so much before the end of training camp let alone before the end of the college/nfl seasons. to me, its really an exercise in guess work.

I don't think anybody puts much value in it. But I know I'm not alone in wondering what next year's draft will look like right after this draft was done. I'm not dying to know exactly how it will look, but getting an idea of who is around, and where teams are likely to pick is entertaining.

Found this video on another board and wanted to share:

Forte: Every touch in the Senior Bowl

He looked real good there. He looked a lot like a young Marcus Allen. Bigger, but similar speed and running style. Robert Smith comparison still fits, but he looks a lot tougher than the thespian ever was.

He looked like he has the ability to shed some tackles and power through a few people. But he didn't look very fast to me, and he didn't look to have much side-to-side ability. He looks like a decent straight-line runner from that vid, but certainly nothing spectacular.

Admittedly, I don't know much about him yet.

Why take a FB in the first round?

Thanks for the video, Chocolate Milk.

Definitely more of a straight line guy. But so was Marcus Allen. He has the vision to make his cuts behind the line, find the hole, and hit it hard. He's big enough that I don't mind him NOT juking the crap out of DBs when he gets beyond the 2nd level. Probably not a true HR hitter, as he can't turn nothing into something, but give him a hole, he'll find it and if he breaks free, he's fast enough that he won't be caught from behind.

I was half-asleep watching the draft Saturday (night shifts), but I thought someone said he ran in the 4.4 range at the combine. If that's true, then he's got some speed once he gets going, but the "quickness" factor is not high.

Since AP's value goes beyond just running back, and Wolfe is the change-of-pace guy, I agree with some others that bringing in Forte at least opens up a greater possibility that Benson will be cut.

Rex Grossman numbers when he came back from being wrongfully benched:

75 comp

136 att

911 yards

3 td

1 int

80.1 rating

Also sacked 16 times in 5 games, actually 4 not counting the Washington game.

Awful just Awful

He's lucky he didn't spend time in the hospital with that Oline. Orton & Griese too.

Seriously though, Tebow in the top 10 is a joke.

Rivals already had an 09 mock up too. Had the Bears taking Sen'Derrick Marks, DT, Auburn

No Vontae Davis...he could be the top corner in next year's draft. Oh, and Andre Smith is too low at 19. And I like Marks, I think he'd be a great prospect.

Still, fun to see a year in advance.

Forte looked good. Definitely more speed than Benson. He looked good in the open field once and can catch the ball. He did fumble once, and I wonder if that is due to him running so tall because he leaves so much of his body exposed.

I'm interested to see what McCoy does this year. His yards were tough to come by toward the end of last year, but he looked like the best all-around back in the country last year to me. Decent size. 4.4 speed. He caught 33 passes out of the backfield. And showed he could be a workhorse with 30+ carries vs. WVU last year.

Oher is a stud tackle. He'd been a 1st rounder if he came out this year, and probably would be a Bear right now, as I rated him above Williams. Another strong OT draft, and the Bears could have their franchise bookends by this time next year.

Davis and Jenkins will battle all year and in the combine to be the #1 CB next year.

Safety class will be insane next year, with anywhere from 5-8 guys possibly going on Day 1. Defensive end class will again be strong, packed with pure pass rushers.

I like Beanie Wells more than LeSean McCoy but that's me.

Andre Smith is an incredible talent for OL, and rivals saying he has battle controlling his weight is spot on. In fact there are people on Saban's staff, and among Alabama's fans (including the most knowledgeable about the talent) who fully believe Andre Smith will be a Guard at the NFL level. So 19th overall may not be too low for Smith.

has angelo been criticized yet for the fact that the bears didn't draft a qb in 2009 mock drafts?

Not sure about that, but I'll guarantee Steve Young has his 1001 reasons why the Bears and Grossman suck all ready to go for the '08-'09 season
