Can you ever have to many Zambranos?

Anyway, Victors having a respectable run in Venezuala with a 3-1 line and a 2.70 era, and could he really do any worse in the rotation than Dempster or 2nd half Marquis? He doesnt really seem to be on anyones radar.

DL regulars Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon already have their suiters, and Livan Hernandez doesnt even seem to be on JHs radar. This team, as well as most of the division is starved for pitching, and Victor Z might be an OK risk if hes willing to sign a minor league deal with an invite. Other possibiliies include Kris Benson and Jaret Wright. Sidney Ponson might just be a waste of time even at the AA level.

Simply, yes. Stay far away.

If he was throwing well enough down in Venezuela to be offered a ST invite/minor league deal, he prob. would've been offered by now. Teams have had the entire winter to see him pitch.

Remember, we're talking about an orgnization who isnt ready to give up on 53 year old quasi-prospect Les Walrond.

That doesn't mean that picking up Victor Zambrano would somehow be a smart move. And that is what you're asking, afterall.

Every team has their "Les Walrond". Its called a minor league filler. If teams didnt have these guys they would struggle to field halfway competant minor league teams, and risk burning out the real prospects. The Cubs know Walrond isnt a major leaguer, but he fills an organizational need.

All Im saying is that with Sean Marshalland possibly Gallagher burning a hole in Hendrys pocket, unless someone like Veal or Samardzia has some miraculous spring training, we could be lookin at Dempster as a 5th starter, so I dont see why they wouldnt give someon like Zambrano, Benson, or Wright at least a look at spring training. Im not saying he deserves a 3 year deal.

A bunch of those guys will get looks in ST. Happens every year. Every team invites a long list of veteran's who aren't good enough to be on anyone's 40 man roster, but could make the team because of an injury or specific need.

Sometimes when I'm sad I repeat the words "Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano" over and over in my head and it makes me smile.

That trade is awesome. I'm just glad I was around to see it happen. That will have to go down as one of the historically bad trades in MLB

If baseball would change the rulebook that 4 balls make up a strikeout, then yeah I would say give the guy a chance.
