I actually forgot about ND, mostly because of how insignifcant they have become. Unless the rob a BCS bid only to get blown out again.

If only anything in this post was actually true.

(Automatic bid in 2005. West Virginia and their non-con of Marshall, E. Washington, E. Carolina and Miss. State were the only other eligible team in 2006. I should sig this.)

I know it's not completly true but with my Michigan ties I like to knock ND :-).

the part about them being insignificant was true, at least

And the getting blown out part.

Notre Dame will really be insignificant when everyone stops trying to be the first to say that they're insignificant.

Awesome. I hate the Big Ten, but more college football is always a good thing.

If anyone who went to or is a huge fan of any of the following schools - and is interested in writing about them on a Web site (albeit for free) - PM me. I write for a fans-only sportswriting website and my 'boss' asked our current Midwestern writers to find Big Ten writers.

I can't say anything bad about the big 10 because I just heard a rumor we might be going there.

Just from some boosters with some knowledge about the school...a heck of a lot more than I have. The academic and sports seem to match up well and this might also be a go to heck (from Big 10 people) to ND from what I've heard.

it makes sense in a lot of ways, i'd just be surprised if Syracuse left the Big East in basketball

Boy, that would teach us, all right.

no, having all big ten teams refuse to schedule ND would teach them, however

Yeah, Syracuse basketball out of the Big East doesn't feel right.

I guess its possible. If the Big Ten ever added another team, I always assumed it would be Mizzou or Pitt.

Is ND close enough to schedule SEC teams should that happen? That would be a pretty even tradeoff prestige and level of difficulty-wise, but it would be somewhat out of area.

I know Tennessee has faced ND multiple times over the years, not sure if it would work wide-spread, though.

Going to Tennessee media day Saturday to interview a local kid on the team. He's a linebacker, so hopefully I'll be able to interview John Chavis.

That would be pretty cool.

Well, ND and Michigan are contracted to play until 2031, so that's out. In my opinion, if ND stopped playing the Big Ten, good riddance.

You mean 3 games, and somehow I think there are other teams besides the 8 or 9 that currently play us yearly that wouldn't mind it too much.

Never let facts get in the way in an anti-Notre Dame argument.

I'm sure that's what the Sooners figured would happen when they came to the stadium in 1999 to face a crappy ND team that went 5-7 that year.

Actually in all seriousness I think they're scheduled to play each other again in like 7 years or something. So that should be fun at least.

The thing about ND is the frustration of them not joining the Big 10 and that is what I meant, not sticking it up there wazoo.

Boeheim is not really for this and that is a tough sell for us. Plus, with Tranglouse (sp) leaving things are going to change for good or bad and from what I hear Syracuse wants more stability.

btw, Andy, your attitude towards the Big 10 is EXACTLY why people hate ND fans.

Why Big 10 people hate ND fans! For the Big East, that hate would only help us and has.

That's because ND doesn't play any Big East teams (in football), so their "we're better than everyone and don't need you" attitude doesn't rub you the wrong way. The Big 10 has had a fairly symbiotic relationship with ND (Michigan, Purdue and Michigan St. mostly, with PSU having some history), yet fans like Andy constantly say "whatever, we don't even want to play you", etc.

I think they are playing 3 or 4 this year and have agreed to play that many at the least as long as they are in the BE (in other sports) from here on.

ND is a midwestern school and has a national draw so they are a natural to play 3 or so teams in the area plus going to the other areas of the nation. If they went to the Big 10 they would have to play what, 8 or 9 conference teams and then play USC, a tough southern team and then a tough eastern team plus Navy which is a lot if you ask me.

ND gets way too much credit when they are good and way too much attention when they are average or bad but like it or not, they are a lightning rod when it comes to college football.
