I find it hard to believe that someone would advance as high as GM without being really good at something in the baseball world. Hopefully Littlefield is now doing what he excels at for us.

The Peter Principle at its finest. I used to think the same was true with Hendry. I liked him as the minor league guy, back when I thought the system was very good. But when all was said and done, it didn't produce much under Jim.

Littlefield's bio from the Bucs Page

Before joining the Pirates, Littlefield served the Florida Marlins as Vice President and Assistant General Manager under Dave Dombrowski, a position he held since March 6, 2000. With the Marlins, he assisted the GM in all aspects of baseball operations and was in charge of the club's scouting efforts in the Far East. In addition, he supervised the construction of the Marlins new baseball academy in the Dominican Republic.

Dave was named the Marlins Assistant General Manager on November 6, 1998, after spending parts of three seasons as the Director of Player Development for the Montreal Expos. Littlefield joined the Expos scouting department in November of 1991 as a National Crosschecker and East Coast Supervisor. He also spent three years in the Detroit Tigers organization as an area scout and East Coast Scouting Supervisor.

There were some talented Expos teams back in the 90s though most of the homegrown talent on the 1994 team was probably scouted and assembled before Littlefield got there.

Its hard to tell. Depends exactly on what he did as National Crosschecker and East Coast Supervisor from 91-95. Guys who were in the Expos minor league system from 95-98 when he was Director of Player Development include Vlad, Grudz, Vidro, OCab, Barrett, Brian Schnieder, Javier Vazquez, and Milton Bradley.

What do:

B.J. Upton , Prince Fielder, Khalil Greene, Scott Kazmir, Nick Swisher, Matt Cain, Cole Hamels and Jeff Francoeur all have in common

:?:

If the goal is to add another node of incompetence to this organization, then I'd say this is a good move.

I give... what do they have in common?

They all play proffesional baseball

Well, to be fair, so does Bryan Bullington.

The answer is that they were all in the 2002 draft where the Bucs had the #1 pick and chose Bullington.

$$$$$$

Thank you...

I faced Bullington many, many times. He was good, but I never thought he was #1 pick good. It was a money decision.

I think this was part of the Aramis trade - I'm giving you a gift, hire me when I get fired.

Sorry, I can't stop laughing.

Maybe, now with Littlefield on your staff, you'll trade us Pie for Morris!

Nice to see Jake is enjoying this, even if it is just schadenfreude.

Jake needs some happiness in his baseball life.

This is so true.
