Guys we don't want roberts.

I don't want him for any rational reason, I'll admit. I want him for the purely irrational desire to get Soriano out of the leadoff spot. I know that lineup positioning matters little, and that Soriano really isn't a terrible option as a leadoff hitter, but there's just a little bit of that conventional wisdom ingrained in me that wants him in the late-middle of the order. I feel like Roberts would play a big role in getting that done.

Plus, if you really are so sure that DeRosa will regress to the mean next year, wouldn't Roberts be a pretty good upgrade there?

All that said, I'd be more excited about a trade for a new SS than I would be about Roberts.

Soriano will likely still leadoff, just now Roberts will hit second instead of Theriot.

I don't think so, despite what the reports may or may not be saying. I guess we'd just have to wait and see on that, though.

this is true, but i am optimistically thinking some how a wrench will get thrown into the wheels of hendry's mind

I think more likely the wrench comes from the Orioles side.

On one hand, it's been said that Andy needed to trade other guys before he could trade Roberts. On the other hand, once Angelos gives the OK for trading Tejada and Bedard, he can probably justify saying, okay, that's enough, we have to keep Roberts for PR reasons.

Soriano will not be leading off if we get Roberts. I'd be shocked if that was the case.

Is Roberts that popular in Baltimore?

Yes. He is a hit with the ladies and he also does a ton of work in the community. They love him in Baltimore.

Has Angelos ever actually cared about PR?

go read my comments in other threads. i am not about to explain it for the the 10th time.

Here's one reason why:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2609699

Some of baseball's biggest stars responded with denials and denunciations Sunday following a Los Angeles Times report in which former pitcher Jason Grimsley accused five players of using performance-enhancing drugs, according to a federal agent's affidavit. The other players cited were Baltimore teammates Brian Roberts and Jay Gibbons.

Gibbons already went down, and maybe Tejada will be on the Mitchell report.

steroids arent needed.

Angelos also is known to love the guy. Most of the orioles fans over at orioleshangout are worried Angelos will nix the trade because he likes Roberts so much.

OK, I know nothing about the guys the Astros traded...who is any good? That seems like a lot for Tejada.

Well, Luke Scott I think most everyone knows about. Big power potential, but apparently not in the Astros plans for the future despite hitting 18 homers in 350 or so AB with a .351 OBP.

Matt Albers is bleh. 24 years old, went 4-11 last year for the Stros, has a minor league career record of 25-25 with a 3.62ERA and 1.36WHIP. Not that good.

Troy Patton is decent it seems. 3.01 minor league ERA and 1.18 WHIP. And he's young, only 21/22 years old this coming year

Dennis Sarfate is a 26 year old pitcherwith a minor league losing record (31-33) and an ERA/WHIP worse than Albers (3.67/1.47)

Michael Costanzo appears to be a 3-Truths hitter. Last year in the minors (PHI system) at age 23 put up respectable line of .270/.368/.490 with 27HR 86RBI and 75BB with 157K's

That's just stats though and my general opinion of them. Don't know much about them from a scouting angle. Seems like we could've matched/topped this offer easily

I would have rather had Tejada than Roberts. I want Greene more than both.

Houston gave up a pile of crap for him, too. Nice deal for them, assuming he isn't suspended or something.

Patton and Albers were the 2nd and 3rd best prospects in the Houston system going into 2007, and Luke Scott is of course Houston's Matt Murton. Michael Coztanzo was a 1st round pick in 2005 that has been decent in the minors, and Dennis Sarfante has a good arm but hasn't been able to harness his control in the minors. While the Astros didn't give up any absolute sure-fire stars, they gave up a lot in this trade.

He's extremely popular.

I know I've mentioned it many times, but Roberts only gives us more SBs over DeRo and that's it. The amount of prospects we would have to give up for him is not worth. It would be best for us to go a different direction.

So is the amazing Adam Everett out of a job at Short or is Tejada moving to 3b?

Adam Everett should have been out of the job even without the Tejada trade.

adam everett is leaps and bounds ahead of theriot.

hes an average shortstop. yes average, not bad.

Yeah, I've definitely shifted over that way. He's just a lefty and steals more bases. Save the prospects for someone else and keep DeRo...go after Figgins or Greene.
