thank god dustin pedrioa never came up through the cubs system.

I rest my case.

Pedroia (age 22) in 2006: .191 .258 .303

Pedroia (age 23) in April/May of 2007: .182 .308 .236

That's horrible. Yeah, that last one is SLG. Boston kept sending him out there and he proved he belongs. Who wouldn't want this guy now?

Pedroia (age 23) for all of 2007, including horrid April/May above:.317 .380 .442

I listed Ryne Sandberg and Sammy Sosa in my last post. Imagine if you will those guys never getting another chance to perform because of how poorly they hit in their age 22 seasons.

Will Cedeno follow the path of Ryne Sandberg or Sammy Sosa? We don't know. If he doesn't get the opportunity, we will never know. Ryan Theriot is not a good enough player to take away the at bats Cedeno needs to prove he belongs.

And it's not as if the Cubs would be dumping Theriot if Cedeno never amounts to anything. They'd still have him to come back to later.

Wow. Up to 9 pages now. We are still talking about Cedeno and Theriot, correct?

Frankly, I don't care of this thread goes 27 pages. It won't change the facts: neither player should be starting at the major league level for a contending team based on what they've shown thus far at the major league level. A ballclub projecting to have a payroll of $125M shouldn't have to play either player.

Only a team that pays a low OBP/high SLG guy $136M to leadoff and sign a high ERA/high WHIP pitcher to a 3 year deal worth $21M because he can pitch innings should be forced to make a decisiion like Theriot vs. Cedeno. Oh, right, that is us.

I think if Cedeno can have a strong enough spring he can push Theriot for a starting role. My hopes are that Hendry has his eyes on trades for Miggy/Green/Furcal/ or letting Derosa get a shot there if we land Roberts.
