People laugh at the D-Rays but in reality they have some good talent on that team, man. If they could spend on a player or two, and pull off a couple of smart moves they could be really good. They aren't the Pirates, thats for sure.

I've been to new Busch. Unimpressive. It looks a lot like the old Busch Stadium, only with the modern retro decor and a view in the outfield. They basically rebuilt the old stadium.

Different, could be cool. Wonder when the last stadium with such low seating capacity (34K) has been built. That's small, though they obviously have no fan base/fans.

the trop only holds 38k

That's pretty much irrelevant to my point. The Trop opened in 1990, eight years before the Devil Rays, or Rays, came into existence. That wasn't a conscious decision by an MLB team to build such a small stadium; this is. Considering their fan-base, I'm not saying they should build a bigger stadium. It's just quite small.

I believe PNC was built to be just 36k. Citi Field is going to be much smaller than Shea. It's been a trend for a while. Wrigley and Fenway showed the benefits of small capacity.

Thank god it's not another cookie cutter ballpark.

I agree

When was the last time a new ballpark came out that was a cookie cutter? I'd say the last stadium built that was completely uninteresting as New Comiskey. Every stadium built or in the works since that stadium has at least a somewhat interesting design.

Cookie-cutter isn't the right word for it, but Busch Stadium has really milked the "retro style with modern amenities!" teat bone-dry.

Exactly.

It looks just like those but with fewer outfield seats and a wacky sail on top of it.

So true. It's incredibly plain.

Not really. The D-Rays stadium to me looks like the result of Kauffman stadium and Olympic Stadium after they mated. Kauffman has that sort of roundish design and Olympic has that tall ass structure thing.

The trend has been smaller, especially after both Colorado and Texas built huge stadiums. But 34,000 still seemed small to me, that was my question. According to wikipedia (I know, I know) PNC seats roughly 38,500 and Citi Field will seat about 45,000. PNC is right in line -- albeit a little smaller -- with Wrigley and Fenway, but in a much smaller market. It's also ironic you mention Wrigley and Fenway to extol the virtues of smaller stadiums, when both have crammed extra seating in everywhere possible this century.

How would that thing hold up in hurricane-force winds?

It's retractable. I'm sure they'd just take it down if it was that windy.
