from baseballamerica....

The first pick goes to the Rays taking righthander Tim Lahey from the Twins. He’s a converted catcher from Princeton who throws 90-92 mph with a slider.

Tim Lahey I can blog on a bit while we have a pause; he wasn’t making the Twins’ Top 30 prospects that I was working on yesterday in my hotel room. But we hear he’s getting traded to the Cubs.

Ok...now I'm getting a little worried.

I wonder if he could be involved in a trade to a team like Baltimore?

Why would the Orioles want another crappy reliever?

I'm just thinking of teams that could carry a young reliever on their ML roster all year....

Can the cubs select more then one player?

Technically I'd guess so, but I'd doubt we've got room on the 25 man to hide two guys all year long.

I was just wondering because of the quote earlier about the Cubs looking for arms, arms and more arms. I wouldn't think we could hide anyone on the 25 man either and I don't get Lahey at all. Seems like he doesn't have near the upside some of the others out there had.

Would he have to stick on the ML roster if we traded him to another team?

They saw how well it worked for the Reds?

That's my understanding

He's a reliever. Hard to be a top prospect as a reliever, without dominant closer stuff, ala Marmol. If the Cubs selected him I'd guess one of 2 things are happening.

A. They are trading either him or more likely another reliever in the near future.

B. They are trading something to the Twins before the end of spring training in order to be able to put Lahey in AAA until they need him.

Yes.

And now the Cardinals take who seems like the next obvious candidate to break out from Rule 5. I wonder if he must be hurt worse than I thought? I don't fully understand getting Lahey yet.

Does anyone have any information on Barton. I know that he is an OF and was a BA top 100 prospect at one time. But what are the scouting reports on him? Who does he compare to? Does he have a good shot at staying on the roster all year?

He's had some sort of microfracture surgery so he may get to sit on the IR for while.

He's a good talent, but old. He stayed in school at Miami (of all places) to get his aeronautical engineering degree.

He's actually a good candidate to stay on the DL for most of the year as he blew out his knee.

Any chance that he could end up being the player that we get back for Monroe?

Is that possible to do?
