The two big Rule 5 prospects are Brian Barton and Randor Bierd. Bierd's out of the Dominican, Barton went to Miami.

Chris Kline of Baseball America reported he heard the Cubs were in the Rule 5 draft for "arms, arms, arms." Don't see anyone from an Ivy League institution.

I thought the picks were by worst record...did the Cubs trade to move up? Can you trade to move up?

Yes, you can sell/buy the pick

From the quick search I did for him, he looks to be a pitcher that was converted from catcher. He is a big Righthander at 6'5" 250lbs. As was already stated, his stats don't look overwhelming, but I don't know anything about his stuff.

Sidenote: The other converted catcher to pitcher on our roster is doing alright (Carlos Marmol).

Can the cubs select more then one player?

Technically I'd guess so, but I'd doubt we've got room on the 25 man to hide two guys all year long.

from baseballamerica....

The first pick goes to the Rays taking righthander Tim Lahey from the Twins. He’s a converted catcher from Princeton who throws 90-92 mph with a slider.

Tim Lahey I can blog on a bit while we have a pause; he wasn’t making the Twins’ Top 30 prospects that I was working on yesterday in my hotel room. But we hear he’s getting traded to the Cubs.

Ok...now I'm getting a little worried.

The Cubs must see something everyone else is missing. Guy couldn't even crack the top 30 in the Twins system?

I wonder if he could be involved in a trade to a team like Baltimore?

Why would the Orioles want another crappy reliever?
