Not surprisingly, the second thing they talk about is ARod. The deal is virtually done, everything is still being finalized.

So we still have a shot?

Taking about Fuku now. Say Cubs are clear front runner and want him badly (we all know that). Latest they've heard is that he wants to come to the US, but other teams who don't want to overpay for Rowand or Jones may get in on him.

This show has actually been decent. No real earth shattering news, but they have actually talked about other teams than just Boston and New York, and other players than Santana.

Talked about Prior. Teams are lining up for trading for him. Cubs are considering options.

I wonder if they'll consider keeping him

Jim, take a hint. "Teams are lining up for him."

One would hope so. Given that teams are lining up to trade for him, the logical conclusion is that he's a valuable commodity. But, knowing the Cubs, they'll non-tender him because he doesn't play right field or hit left-handed.

Prior's fools gold, I hope the Cubs get what they can for him.

I don't think he's quite fools gold, but I don't have a problem with the Cubs trading him. There just aren't that many success stories when it comes to pitchers coming back from serious shoulder injury. Plus I think both sides are pretty much ready to move on at this point.

Shapiro says he likes the team's SP depth, might not trade any of them. Doesn't like FA, tries to avoid it. Happy with CC and Fausto. Happy he won't have to face Santana as often. Added that biggest things that could positively happen are own players improving. Edited by Post Count Padder

I'm really hoping that somebody overpays for him looking at his potential and if the Cubs can add him to a blockbuster deal to get an impact player I'd be thrilled. I really see him having a 500 career with a worse than average WHIP once he actually can pitch. If the Cubbies can get more value than that I'd like the deal.

Talking about Moreno's comments about Mitchell report. Gammons says he's given up on guessing who the players are.

These guys will be dead and buried by the time that list comes out.

Anybody who has any desire to trade Mark Prior at this point is basing their opinion on irrational emotion and not a semblance of reasoned logic.

This is assuming, of course, that no team would offer a deal worth a damn at this point. Obviously, if you get an offer you can't refuse, you take it. Who knows? Maybe some team would. I highly, highly doubt it, though. The fact is, in all likelihood, his value at this point is nowhere near worth giving up the risk vs. reward of keeping him around.

Hendry's probably slobbering all over himself. He could probably get any weak-hitting middle infielder he wants for Prior. Kid in a candy store.

Yanks just DFA'd Andy Phillips. He played second base in the minors. He hit .292 last year, though. That's probably not bad enough for Hendry.

If I'm being emotional, it's on the side of Prior. He's my favorite player in 2003 and I want absolutely nothing more then to see him silence his critics and re-gain his stuff, and it would break my heart if it wasn't with the Cubs.

At the same time, I'm in favor of trading him. The indications are that Prior does not want to re-sign with the Cubs for the 2009 season and beyond (speculation, yes, but the most likely conclusion with the available evidence). If Prior doesn't want to stay beyond next year, then the Cubs should get value out of him now from a team who he will sign with. A couple of those 3 prospects that the Padres were supposedly offering up would be better than paying 3.5 million for maybe 3-4 months of Prior and then seeing him leave in free agency for nothing.

Looks like Melvin turned down a Weeks for Chad Cordero trade.

Link.

Melvin is an idiot.
