The poster named Peace21 seems to be the insider with the best info over at orioleshangout. He's broken a few things before, including the Tejada deal a couple days ago. Here's what he wrote this morning:

Lets get back to talking trade talks. Alot of things will start to pick up. Bedard and Roberts should be dealt before Christmas. And for certain, Roberts wont be affected by the report..per Cubs.

Hendry really wants Roberts. And Pie is expected to be in the deal. Gallagher will definitely be in any deal.

He's also the only one of their insiders thinking Pie would be in a deal.

Pie and Gallagher for Roberts? Hendry would be a damn fool to make that trade.

If Pie is included in the deal, Hendry must be reasonably sure he can get Figgins, right?

I mean, we can't go with Fuld in CF. I don't rule out a Fuku in CF and Murton in RF scenario at all, but it just seems like that idea might've been put to rest somewhat by the reports this week that part of what sold Fuku on the Cubs (among other things) was that he'd be able to play RF.

Roberts

Murton

Lee

Fuku

Ramirez

Soriano

Soto

Theriot

Just an idea. The lefties split up the righties (which I don't care much about but Lou seems to) and Lou has pretty much said Fuku will be in the middle of the order (I think he mentioned the 3 & 4 spots as the main possibilities, but I could be remembering wrong).

I wish Soriano hadn't gotten hurt and we could've stuck with him in CF. He seemed to be doing fine and I think the hitting was more of just a slow start than him struggling because of his position. He'd be a really valuable bat as a CF.

I can guarantee you that Murton will not be a starter. They will not move Soriano from LF which complicates things. But I d like that lineup though.

If they traded Pie in the deal for Roberts instead of Murton, I don't see how Murton would not be a starter unless they made another trade for a CF.

I get the distinct impression Hendry and Lou have no intention of moving Fukudome to CF. And we wont ever move Soriano again.

I get that impression too, as noted earlier, but I don't see, barring a trade for Figgins or someone like that, who would play CF if you are dead set on Soriano and Fuku in the corners.

I wouldn't mind Pie for Roberts at all. Until Pie shows some semblance of plate discipline at any level, I'd much rather keep Murton if it's believed Fukudome can show himself to be even adequate at CF.

I also wonder if maybe we aren't taking for granted a bit that DeRosa will be able to sustain his 2006 numbers and health. He hasn't exactly shown that he's a dependable 140+ game starter. While the difference between DeRosa and Roberts might be marginal, the difference between Roberts and Fontenot is immense. And having DeRo as a supersub grants Lou so much more flexibility and provides so many more contingency plans for when things go wrong.

It's been sounding very much like Fukudome was signed here with the assurance he'll be playing RF. Until we hear otherwise, it's a huge stretch and terribly unlikely that we'll see him in CF. Any deal moving Pie must be countered with another deal to get a CFer.

I would rather keep Murton than Pie, too. However, we could find a lot better value for Pie/Gallagher that Brian freaking Roberts.

For instance, Pie/Gallagher would be a real nice start on a Khalil Greene trade.

That's what I was thinking

I don't think it's a stretch to think we might see him in CF on occasion either to mix things up, to sit Felix down just as he starts to get his stroke, or in an extra inning game when players are running out.

But yeah, I don't think he's gonna be the regular CF at any point.

I know PetCo is not a hitter friendly park, but why is everyone salivating at the prospect of having a guy who also put up a .322 OBP on the road last year?

Acquiring Khalil Greene would mean that we would have close to an Alfonso Soriano quality hitter at shortstop.

That would be a very, very good thing.

Because there is a very high probability that he'll have an OPS of .800-.850 with the increase in HR (25-30) he'll see playing half his games at a more hitter friendly park, and that's really good for a SS. Especially when you take into account the lack of production we have there right now.

I'm trying to think, was there even a rumor that the Cubs were interested in Greene, or is all this Greene/Pie speculation based solely off the stir it caused when Meph said we should trade Pie for Greene? I don't recall seeing any rumors about it

Pads reportedly offered us Greene for Pie in May (I think) last year, but we turned it down. I don't know if it's been mentioned again that the Cubs are going to pursue Greene or if it's all speculation at this point.

What assurances do we have that Roberts' PED use is only in the distant past? I'd rather drop the idea of trading for him unless I can be sure. I don't want to dump decent value for a guy who is now going to stop doing HGH and watch his numbers tank with us.
