Fukodome+Matsui isn't too expensive but Tejada is. Hendry's a joke.

Exactly. Someone please give the VORP difference between Tejada and Theriot and Fukudome and Murton.

just as a reminder - VORP = Value over Replacement Player

Value Over Replacement Player. The number of runs contributed beyond what a replacement-level player at the same position would contribute if given the same percentage of team plate appearances. VORP scores do not consider the quality of a player's defense.

and, according to BP, here's the info:

Tejada 31.8 (9th of 37 w/ 200 PA or more)

Theriot 6.6 (24th of 37 w/ 200 PA or more)

Murton 7.3 (30th of 37 w/ 200 PA or more)

You guys know why JH is doing this right?

2005 - Copies WS Champ Red Sox and acquires "character guys"

2006 - Copies WS Champ White Sox and acquires gritty scrappy guys

2007 - Copies WS Champ Cardinals and acquires bad overrated/over the hill players (Floyd, Monroe, Kendall, Marquis)

2008 - Copies WS Champ Red Sox and looks for lefties (Red Sox had 4 players who could hit lefty in their every day lineup - 2 were switch hitters)

The Red Sox had two Japanese players. Perhaps the quest for Matsui and the pursuit of Fukudome can be explained by that.

I never thought of that. We're on to Jim's master plan.
