Instead of doing Prior a favor, why not look at teams that could actually help us now? Prior and DeRosa (since Colorado lost out on Matsui) and another prospect to Colorado for Seth Smith and Ian Stewart. Smith isn't cracking that outfield anytime soon, and he isn't getting any younger. Stewart has been working at 2b this fall since he's blocked by Atkins at 3b. Both hit left handed.

I don't think that's the case at all. I think the Padres have more interest in him than others do and as the article said he might have an easier time negotiating with SD so that makes Prior more attractive to them.

I doubt Prior would want to sign with Colorado, so they won't give us anything of value. That's the only reason SD will give the Cubs prospects is because it is his hometown and they expect that he'll stay and sign another contract past 2008.

I'd make the deal for either one of the last two prospects, but not the first one.

Agreed. That's the only way we'd get anything worthwhile, if we trade Prior to someone who'd easily sign him. If the PAds are willing to give us Huffman and Leblanc, then I'd give it the green light.

I thought it was all 3? Poop.

If it's all three, then that's pretty sweet. I wasn't sure of the wording and I don't know if we're getting one of them, two of them , or all three.

Meh, found this on LeBanc from a Pads site:

Leblanc is usually described as a back of the rotation starter in part to his lack of velocity (his fast ball usually sits in the mid-80s) but he does have a plus-change.

You can never have too many lefties in your rotation, dude.

Just to sum it up for me since I do not know much about the Pads prospects, if the Cubs trade Prior for Huffman and LeBlanc they would be getting guys with the upside to be similar to Marshall and a Murton? Huffman might have a little more power than Murton but would probably hit for a lower avg? This sound about right or would their ceilings be a little higher?

I can't believe this is how the Prior Era is going to end. The Promised One is going to leave before we can even find out if he's healthy and recovered - and by selling as low as possible. Two years ago we were rumored to have an offer of Miguel Tejada and Erik Bedard. Now we're considering a deal for two guys who may never crack a major league starting lineup. Why not wait until the trade deadline and see if we could actually get decent value for him? What's the risk? $3.5MM? If he would have panned out by now he'd be making $10MM on an extension. $3.5 millioin is not a huge risk today for any guy who's upside is a front of the rotation starter.

I agree. This should be his absolute final chance. Let him start the season as a Cub.

And to think I was dead set against that Tejada and Bedard deal when it was proposed. I wish I had a time machine to go back on tha t one.

The Mutts might also be a good fit.

I'd prefer to trade him to the AL. How about the Blue Jays? The Rangers? Do they have anything we'd be interested in?

Ditto. Think of how Bedard would look in our rotation now.

Why would the Padres trade for Prior when they can't even keep Peavy? If Prior's solid (and I think he will be), he's going to get a very good deal.

If I recall correctly, Bedard was never on the table. Hendry insisted on Bedard's inclusion, and that's the biggest reason the deal never went forward.

If you add a healthy Prior to the Padres rotation, you can hand them the W.S. trophy.

Wow, Talk about an overstatement.

I would like to see Tim Stauffer instead of LeBlanc

Very true. And I believe the O's wanted more than Prior for Tejada, too.

God, I wouldn't. This isn't 2005, Stauffer sucks.

Seriously. I don't understand your liking of Stauffer, mhuber. This isn't the first time you've wanted the Cubs to trade for him.

He thinks it's still 2005.
