No. I think JH's plan should be getting a good corner OF whether it be Fukudome, Crawford, Guillen and the committing to Pie in Center. Cheap option that could put up decent to good numbers with great defense. If Pie really flops, you can always make a deadline deal.

No strong opinion. Terribly inconsistent. When he's on, he's as good as it gets for CF. When he's off, he sucks. I'm not at all confident in him maintaining his production over the next 4-5 years. Don't think he'd be a wise investment for the Cubs.

I think Pie will be fine in CF. If for some reason he bombs, I like some of the options on the farm. I'm really impressed with what Sam Fuld is doing this winter. EPatt and Colvin gives the Cubs even more depth.

What about Rowand in RF and Pie in CF?

Rowand will be overpaid because he can play CF. If you put him in RF you are wasting much of the value. And if he does revert back to mediocrity, his numbers would be somewhat tolerable in center, but a big problem in right.

He's not a good fit for this team, as it stands.

I'm lukewarm on him. If he can be had at a reasonable price, I'd be all for it. However, considering he's seeking years and numbers that I'm not particularly a fan of, I'd rather pass on him.

I totally agree. I think if we upgrade the other positions enough we can get by with Pie's offense still developing since his D is great.

That's how I feel, but I'm not confident that's how it will be handled.

What about Rowand in RF and Pie in CF?

I think just about any free agent that bats right handed is probably at the very bottom of Hendry's wish list.

The price for CFs in baseball has become even more ridiculous than that of RPs. Considering what guys like Pierre, Matthews, and Rowand are commanding, plugging in Pie is a no-brainer.

I don't think he'll be worth it based on the money he's going to command.
