Nice list. I'm also curious about this big left handed power bat that Hendry say's he is looking for. Seriously Jim?!?!? Are you going to pull one out of your arse? I wish I was a millionare banging a supermodel too.

17 of the 40 perceived "bad values" have played for the Cubs at one time.

I counted 16, perhaps you thought of the other A-gon. Doesn't really matter though :) Point is, none of these guys should be Cubs by opening day. :crosses fingers:

What's wrong with Clement? With his injury filled years in Boston, he won't be getting any significant deal where it jeopardizes future spending.

The risk to get him is likely very low given everything he has been through.

if healthy, he'd be a much better option than Marquis

I assume he meant Alex "Thank heaven for Steve Bartman" Gonzalez, because the other one isn't a free agent.

ah, that must be the case, then. I assumed he couldn't mean A-s-Gon since he retired a year or two back, but I suppose Walker's on the list too

Aaron Rowand? He would make the Cubs a better team.

So did Soriano, but both will get contracts they don't deserve.

Ya, that's who I meant. He was on some FA list I saw, said he was on Toronto last. They're retired from MLB the same way I am--because no one wants me on their team :D

I actually wouldn't be against Kendall as the backup if the price was right.

Trade him for a ham sandwich.

Scott Linebrink is on your list--he struggled in Milwaukee, but he has a strong track record. He will be in demand by a number of teams, you can count on that. If the Cubs are unsuccessful in bringing back Wood, maybe they could look into Linebrink to fill that spot in the bullpen.

The heck with Scott Linebrink. He's just an overrated name. Give up a draft pick for Scott Linebrink? That's crazy.

No San Diego reliever is trustworthy, at all. Submitted for your approval, the oft-posted list of San Diego relievers in recent years who weren't good but did well just because they were in San Diego:

2002:

Steve Reed

Alan Embree

Brandon Villafuerte

Clay Condrey

2003:

Rod Beck

Matt Herges

2004:

Blaine Neal

Jay Witasick

Antonio Osuna

2005:

Pedro Astacio

Rudy Seanez

Paul Quantrill

Craig Breslow

Chris Oxspring

2006:

Jon Adkins

Cla Meredith

Brian Sweeney

Scott Cassidy

San Diego relievers are illusions and that includes Linebrink whose peripherals have crapped out.

Heath Bell has really good stuff. I have no idea about his contract status, but he's the most talented middle reliever they have, with a much bigger upside than Linebrink. After watching Linebrink pitch for the Brewers last year, I agree with his inclusion on this list.

When you have a sinker like Bell's, it doesn't matter what park you play in.
