I understand that there's a lot of history there, but it's not like they found the actual goal posts. It's just the concrete anchors to the goal posts.

They probably have at least some of the post still attached.

Is anyone else dismayed that they just threw away the sod and the goalpost anchors? It would have been real cool if someone preserved that.

It's just grass and cement blocks. Who cares.

I think a lot of people would have wanted some Wrigley grass. Additionally, the goal post anchors: who knows if someone wanted them or not? Perhaps it would have been possible to reuse them. You can always throw it away, but if you throw it away, you can't put it to good use. They should have at least seen if someone had any interest or ideas of what to do with them.

I don't understand why someone would want 90-year-old concrete.

You don't think someone out there would pay decent money for the goal post anchors with 50 years of Bears history?

I'm sure some idiot would, but think of it this way, the construction workers just saved that-said idiot thousands of dollars.

Charity auction would have been a nice gesture. I would have taken it off there hands . I would have turned into a modern art sculpture i'm sure it would look in my studio apartment.

I'd pay to see you try to get those things in a studio apt.

So which scene looks more crazy: seeing the Wrigley field turf torn up by bulldozers, or seeing Wrigley field with the bleachers torn to hell?

I vote the latter.

It will really look strange if they ever overhaul the grandstands.

Just go straight to the clubhouse and bathrooms. I once took a tour of Wrigley and I couldn't believe how small the Clubhouse was. It was laughable.

It's certainly small, especially the locker area, but there's more to it that you can't see.

At least they are using the right *brand* of equipment out there. I wonder if my employer is getting footage and stills they could use in the annual report or some of the advertising we do. Hmmm...might be time to make a casual mention to some friends in communications...

My brother-in-law works there as well... he's a programmer of sorts.

At the risk of sounding like Bambi, what's all that white stuff?

Sand.

It goes

Clay

Pipes

Sand

Pea gravel

Top soil

Grass

Out of curiosity, what purpose does the sand serve?

It helps the water to move from the ground to the pipes and cleans particulate matter that could clog the pipes from the water before going into the pipes.

However: the white stuff could very well be lime and not sand. Lime stabalizes the ph level of the soil if it is too acidic. Also I could be wrong about the exact order. Sand may go on top of pea gravel. It's been a while since I did heavy duty landscaping.

Cool, thanks. I figured it was for something along those lines. I would assume the pea gravel would go on top of the sand otherwise the sand would just leach into the pea gravel layer and that seems like it would cause some problems.

Am I the only sicko that noticed the subtle differences in the shaping of the infield/dirt area? The area around home plate is more circular, whereas it used to be a straight edge in front of home plate. Also, the cutoff areas by the bases are rounder and smaller.

Nothing major. I'm just a loser like that.
