Mark prior could have not hung a curve to Irod. Dusty Baker could have made a visit to the mound or a pitching change. But no, we should blame some guy that caught a ball that Moises Alou- who never went into the stands in his life to catch a ball- was somehow going to catch.

Where's all the outrage over the uselessness of the extra umpires?

Think we should have Bartman riding a goat throw out the first pitch on saturday at wrigley and end all this curse nonsense.

Just saw the Mike Greenberg piece.

Once--just once--it would be nice if ESPN gave a microphone to a typical Cubs fan and let that person do a story on the Cubs. The media's perception is so vastly different from the average Cub fan it's gone from laughable to disgusting.

I think this is why people have a general disregard for the media. No one does their friggin' homework anymore. Let's make a good story rather than tell people how it really is.

I think you hit on something that has long angered me about ESPN but I've never really let it coalesce in my mind.

They go out and propagate this nonsense, show the Bartman video over & over, then interview a bunch of fans until they find the ones with the dumbest looks on their faces going "BARTMAN SUCKS!"

Then they come on afterwards and say, "This is the Chicago fan."

No.

It's.

Not.

Am I the only one who's wondered often about that play if Moises doesn't spaz out and just walks back to his place in Left if we win the game?

T

If he did that then we'd be calling you Coco instead!

I have a lot of feelings on this bartman/espn stuff..

1) television "media" is not media.. it is entertainment.. tv "media" is designed to be entertaining 1st, informational 2nd.. like or not, that's how it is.. espn has no reason to change, because millions and millions of people, like myself, never knew anything else for sports news.. i grew up with it... it has changed from what it once was and it will continue to be that way because people can't get enough of it.. (see 24 hours "breaking news" channels)..

2) it would be almost irresponsible, in a business sense, for all of the sports and news "media" outlets to not exploit the cubs lack of success, the goat, and most recently bartman.. you may or may not agree with it, but it sells..

3) i know i've read a lot on here about how there should not be these excuses and that there is no curse.. but it is in the fiber of the cubs.. there has been an unprecedented amount of failure with the cubs, frequently relating to flukes and non baseball things..

4) "everyone what have done what bartman did" probably not.. many would have, absolutely.. i feel terrible that the guy has been blamed for the meltdown that was game 6, but he did what he did.. i will never forgive him.. does that mean i will send him hate mail and threaten him? absolutely not.. but when i have kids, i will tell them abou the goat, the cat and bernie mac, bartman.. it's history, it's makes for an intriguing story... i love to hate him...

just my two cents on all of this...

Just remember Cubbie fans, if you're sitting in one of those seats near the field....

Do not interfere if a Cub comes over to catch a foul ball!

There. Now we're set.

'Cuz you don't want to be sitting there watching the eyes of Chicago and world center in on you....."CURSE! YOU'RE THE CURSE!!" Right or wrong, it destroyed this man's life. Maybe the curse isn't real, but the possible effects of the perception certainly can be.

That's why a bunch of Card and Sox fans bought up all the tickets along edges of the walls. They're out there, I just know it.

This is why I have pretty much avoided espn and every sports news outlet that is not WGN, comcast or XM. The guys at XM have not mentioned Bartman or the curse at all to my recolection, I listen to thier morning show a good bit. WGN and ComcastSPNCH are not going to mention it. I wont watch ESPN till next year because of stuff like this, unless of course we win the World Series. The thing that sucks is that I'll have to mute the tv several times tonight probably. Sadly XM is only broadcasting the "home" versions of radio broadcast or Id just listen to Pat and Ron. I guess I cant do that untill Saturday. If we get to the next round I think they are expanding to having both home and road games broadcast.
