I've been on playoff teams before, and we've either been real offensive or had an unbelievable bullpen or good starting pitching. You always felt like you were missing an ingredient. That's not knocking the players -- I was on the bench for those teams. I'm not knocking anybody. I just felt like we always ran into a buzz saw.

In '03, I was with the Braves and we ran into Kerry and Zambrano and Prior. The '03 Braves had one of the best lineups ever assembled and we got beat. Every year, we were running into something.

This is different. I feel we bring that as a team. In the playoffs, with our starting pitching, you run into Zambrano, a monster who can shut you down. You need to have that.

I could see myself developing a much bigger man crush on DeRo in the playoffs.

Also...really wish we had some Wrigley night games in this one. I'm sure we will if (when) we make the NLCS.

I love DeRo a whole lot. And I think I'll love him a whole lot more after these playoffs are over.

I don't think Derosa swings from that side of the plate.

In the top five Cubs thread, I realized I left him off by mistake. I felt bad, like I should have donkey punched myself. In addition to being a solid FA signing, his great attitude and raw enjoyment for the game have always been readily apparent, and stuff like this just ices the cake.

DeRo is my hero.

I remember it was very late at night, like 11-11:30. Big fella comes in screaming about God knows what. I think maybe Halpert had stolen his car - something like that. So the big fella pulls out a sock filled with nickels. Then Schrute grabs a can of hair spray and a lighter…

I'm still trying to figure out the connection... :?

DeRosa's role w/ team expanding to mythical proportions based on 3rd party observations and opinions compounded by the interested parties who wish to perpetuate such image for their own gain. There, you happy? I just killed a good comical reference. Ugh.

Totally isn't one.... or is there?

Nah, just felt like some randomness.

I can't, only because I've had a gigantic man-crush on DeRo since the 2nd week of April and little short of a walk-off, playoff-series-winning hit would make it any bigger.

Some of the comments are pretty funny:

Mr. DeRosa,

Anything you can do to convince Steve Trachsel that the NLDS is being played in Siberia would be greatly appreciated.

DeRo is awesome. I laugh when I think about all the crap that was talked about his signing.
