Perhaps a way to entice more people to sign up for Premium would be one forum that is just for Premium users. i've seen many other sites do this effectively. right now, Premium users get more smilies, fewer ads, and an ignore list. while i'm happy to pay the $50/year to help Tim out, it seems that more enticement may be needed to get better membership in Premium Edited October 18, 2007 by Derwood

Might be interesting....the fewer adds is well worth it all by itself (when I accidentally click on the non-premium I'm amazed people use it at all!)

Bad idea. That just further promotes the "us vs. them" mantra that some people avoid NSBB for.

 

I've long maintained that having a free premium weekend would be a great way to increase the dollars. I would've signed up months ago if this would have been offered. People don't know what they're paying for until you let them see it.

I am currently a premium member thru next August, and I probably never would have shelled out the cash had it not been for winning Vance's premium lottery and getting a month test drive.

 

I think a free period is a great idea, and it should last longer than a weekend. Make it last a week or ten days, and make it happen so that its end coincides with the end of spring training, or make it start the day of the regular season. Restrict unregistered guests to regular, and allow all people who have an account to access the premium interface. (Unless blanket access would be logistically simpler.)

 

The main idea is, don't just let people see what they're missing, give them a little time to be spoiled by it.

pretty sure Tim has addressed this previously, but one doesn't really purchase "Premium" for the bells and whistles. Sure it's nice not having ads in the middle of the page and being able to ignore certain posters at times. However, there isn't a lot of value added in the premium interface. If you're going to purchase premium, do it so that we always have NSBB. I think most really miss the point here.

Exactly. The point of Premium is to help Tim cover his out-of-pocket costs so the site can continue (since he pays for it personally). The features are essentially similar to the premiums people get for contributing during PBS pledge drives. They're a token of appreciation, not a value-for-value exchange.

Tim, if it's possible, you should do like a "weekend preview" or something so everyone can see what Premium looks like. I'm guessing you'd see quite a few other people sign up once they see how good Premium is compared to the regular forums.

That'd be cool, I want too see premium but I want to make sure i'm gettign something good for my money.

No offense, but this kind of attitude irritates me a bit. Do you like the site as a whole? Because I'm fronting a bunch of money each month to keep it running. If you like the site as a whole, it would be nice if you ponied up the cash to help support it.

 

Posts like this make me think that maybe I should make it so that people only get a certain number of posts from a given IP address before they have to sign up for premium to continue.

FWIW (since i'm the one who started the topic) i signed up for Premium solely to help Tim out. i didn't really care about bells or whistles either. the intention of the thread was not "i'm not getting enough for premium" but rather "what can we add to entice more people to join." sorry if that was unclear
