Wow, this board is more pathetic than normal with the doom and gloom. The reality is we went up against a Cy Young caliber pitcher tonight and we weren't able to take advantage of our limited scoring chances. We hit some balls awfully hard; they just didn't fall in. The D-Backs didn't exactly scare me offensively. I expect Lilly to pitch a strong outing tomorrow and the Cubs to come back with a big W...

Someone tell me Doug Davis sucks ass.

Doug Davis sucks ass.

And he'll shut down our offense tomorrow. Just watch.

Positive. .... Soriano can't do worse.

Ramirez can't do worse.

Floyd can't do worse.

Soto can't do worse.

Jones can't do much worse.

For god sakes please win tomorrow Cubs. I want to have fun in Chicago this weekend.

Another overpaid Dominican Cub that does nothing in the playoffs. One hopped at the plate, the other in the outfield.

sosa went .308/.455/.577 in the nlcs. nice try though.

One series?

Well, considering he only played in three playoff series with the Cubs and only one LCS, I'd say those numbers are pretty relevant.

On a positive note, the last time the Cubs lost the opening game of a playoff series, they won the next three games. Lets not analyze that stat any further.

If Dusty was still manager this game would still be going on because we wouldnt be playing in it.

fixed

it was sarcasm I guess I should have wrote Z would have pitched 160 pitches went 11 innings in a tie game but o well.

Things I REALLY hated tonight;

- White pom-poms/towels

- Fans that need a scoreboard to tell them how to act

- Stephen Freaking Drew!

- That we had numerous opportunities to win tonight, offensively, and only capitalized (minimally) once

- That Carlos MarMOLE sucked - and then was good after the damage was done - tonight

- That Carlos Zambrano got a no-decision tonight, after his performance

- That we let AZ and Webb off the hook!!!

- That IDIOT guy wearing Cubs stuff and flashing that neon Cubs sign in the 9th

- Rejects with the "1908" balloons/whatever-thingies, on their necks

- Dumbass "Cub fan" who had the Bartman sign

those are just a few......

Good point....except the part you left out at the end :(

Hey if the Cubs win tomorrow they have home field advantage. Going 1-1 in AZ was expected. Tomorrow is huge. Lilly is 9-1 after Cub losses. Hopefully the offense wakes up. Webb was outstanding. That change is so hard to pick up.

i cant believe people sit here and honestly say bringing in marmol was a good move. you dont pull a guy with 8K's and 85 pitches to "save him for game 4." if he was hurt, thats one thing - but if it was to save him for game 4 it was a horrific move. end of story. there is no possible way to rationalize that move if he wasnt hurt. you dont sacrifice games in the playoffs, period. i dont blame a loss on any one person....but if you want to analyze a move and whether or not it was good....its clear as day it was a terrible move. lou Piniella did not by himself cost us the game....but yanking z was not good. i dont see any possible way anybody could think it was a good move. i just dont.

Baseball game aside, that was one of the worst jobs announcing a sporting event I've ever heard or seen. Simply awful.

I didn't mind Darling. Stockton was bad. But that is usual for him. I am just happy if he gets the names right. And he didn't do that.

What was the commercial about during Lou's visit? Tried to push another one in, but they cut it off.

Perspective?

This is the game we were supposed to lose. Considering I, and many, have us taking this in 4, the first game being the loss, I find it hard to get extremely worked up about this loss. Yea, I'm pissed. We had it tied late and had a shot to steal it. But the series is hardly even close to over.

I love all the people blaming Lou. We scored 1 freaking run. Pretty tough to win games when you only score 1 run.

Offense doesn't get a pass but Lou is supposed to put the team in the best position to win and I don't believe he did. I blame the offense and Marmol too.

Man, I got this really pissed off feeling before the game when they were talking about Cub fans being there and said something like, "the Diamondbacks said they're ready and play to have "beat the cubs" on the screen when the Cub fans start chanting" That is the most [expletive] thing ever. Just get better fans you moron pieces of crap!

And I can't help it, I thought the guy with the neon sign was one of the funniest things ever...I doubt many people will agree, but thats me.

agreed.

Better than Fox where we would have seen a goat walking around the set for three hours.

Can you really blame the offense for getting shut down by Brandon Webb?
