Can you play a game under protest due to a umpire's call?

You have to protest a rule-the umpires didn't follow this rule or that rule. Subjective calls on the field cannot be protested.

Giving the umps carte blanche to screw anyone they please.

Not that the Rockies were necessarily screwed intentionally, but still.

All the more reason replays should be used, at least sparingly, in post-season play.

Yeah, but you have all these old-timers complaining about how it's not in the spirit of the game. Buncha BS.

Are they running commercialess or did they run out? I haven't seen one yet.

They do. But this analysis between innings thing is new. I'm not sure if I like it or not yet.

Agreed. Just because the technology wasn't available 50 years ago doesn't mean it's against the 'spirit of the game', whatever that is.

I can't see how you can blame the ump. This one is on Holliday. Horrible play. Should be an error.

should have been an error. doesn't change the fact that the game would be over if not for the blown call. it was pretty obviously a HR.

The way I see it, baseball needs it for homeruns, foul balls, and plays at bases. Most umpires don't screw up, but when you have things such as the Denkinger Incident looming over baseball lore, instant replay would make life better.

In what inning did this play happen?

I'll still never understand how making sure the correct on-field call is made somehow goes against the fundimental spirit of the game.

here's the thing about the blown HR call. there's six umpires. they showed a replay earlier where Fielden Culbreth was standing about 75 feet behind third base when it happened. had he done his job and run out there to get a better look, this game would be over.

Couldn't he have stretched that into a triple?

would have been an idiot to try for it. That's a case of good baseball IQ.

I wouldn't say idiot. He was slowing down halfway to 2nd when the ball hadn't even been fielded....

I don't see why he'd have gotten a better look on that by having his vision jostled by running and being a ffew feet closer. Maybe he should be stationed further back.

I believe the seventh.
