Regardless of who wins the East, it's looking like the best record in the NL, and the Wild Card, will come out of the West. At this point the D'backs are favored to win the division.

So, the most likely scenario is that the Cubs (having the worst record of the division winners) play the winner of the West, which will probably be Arizona. Aside from the troubles the Cubs seem to have in Arizona, this would also mean that San Diego would be in the other series. I have a hard time believing that Fat Froemming's crew would be calling a Padres' series given the events earlier this week, meaning that if they're doing a playoff series - they very well could be doing the Cubs series. :x

Don't mean to be a wet blanket or anything. Go cobs.

The most unlikely playoff scenario:

Mets win 2

Phillies win 1

Padres lose 2

Rockies win 2

All finish with identical 89-73 records.

Monday playoff: Mets defeat Phillies

Tuesday-Wednesday playoffs: Phillies defeat Padres and Rockies.

Cubs head to New York for a game on Thursday.

At this point, I'd take anyone not named the Philadelphia Phillies or Colorado Rockies, at least in the NLDS.

We should dominate the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 5 game series. Seriously, we can all agree that they're the luckiest team still in it. Come on, as Sean Marshall said, we should be hoping to play them!

90-70 isn't lucky. Best team in the NL, isn't lucky. People have said that for months, still wrong.

Now, who is pitching for you guys Game 1, 2, 3? Assuming we meet up.

1: Webb vs --

2: Davis vs --

3: No idea vs. --

The DBacks have given up more runs than they've allowed. They're clearly a lucky ass team.

Zambrano, Lilly and Hill are unquestionably the Cubs' 1-3. Owings should be #3 for the D'backs, though it's possible that Livan Hernandez could get the nod because he's a "veteran."

Look, I know you're a DBacks fan and all, and its hard to see your own team for what it is, but that's one lucky-ass team. That's not to say you aren't capable of beating the Cubs, or aren't a good baseball team. It just means you're really, really lucky when you give up more runs than you score and you win the division.

90-70 when you gave up more runs than you scored is kind of lucky, I'm sorry. Your lineup is average, your rotation outside of Webb is below average.

Fans and experts across the board have openly wondered just how in the hell the DBacks have won as many games as they have, and it's not because they are all haters.

On paper, the Cubs should wax you in a 5 game series.

That said, the DBacks have the Cubs' number, and I fear them more than the other potential playoff teams.

I don't buy that they "have our number"... I'd easily prefer to play them... the Mets run too much for Gritty to handle and the Padres pitching is just too good. The Phillies should outhit us. Bring on whoever because we gotta beat the best anyway, but Arizona is by far my preference...

well apparently froemming's crew is going to do one of the NLDS - get ready folks.

Let's just hope that Bruce isn't calling balls and strikes for Jason Marquis. Fortunately we don't have any black starting pitchers for that other ump on the crew to screw over.

So anyone know what the time slots are for game 3 and game 4 at Wrigley? Cubs will probably have the night games, right?

Saturday games are 5:30/9:00 EST

The Sunday games are a 12/3:30/7:00 EST slot

You won't see those locked down until Monday (or later, if the massive tie scenario happens).

Ok? We're great in close games, but when we lose we get murdered cause our long relief guys like Edgar Gonzalez, and Dustin Nippert are terrible.

While I agree that the Diamondbacks are one of very few teams where run differential doesn't tell the whole story, they have still gotten quite lucky. They just haven't gotten nearly as lucky as their RS:RA would indicate. They're a good team, but there's no doubt they're the team I'd most like to play.

We have to get that 3:30 time slot on Sunday.

I know alot of people disagree with me, but it wouldn't feel like a playoff game in the daytime...

I'm going on Saturday and I'll be pretty disappointed if it's not a night game.

Now I've got a question. Do they do the pregame team introductions during the DS or does that not happen till the next round?

Why?! Is some sort of a senority factor at work here? For, if its based upon quality Froemming would be no where near a playoff series. He's cleary one of the worst, if not the worst Umpire in Baseball anyone with eyes can see that.

I expect it will be Marquis for game 3 and Hill potentially for game 4 since Lou will want to seperate Lilly and Hill.

Got to keep that crew away from San Diego after what happened last weekend.

That's understandable however, Froemming' crew should not be working the playoffs at all.
