There's no way this team can trot Marquis or Trachsel out there as starters in a playoff series should there be a need outside Zambrano, Lilly and Hill. How about Kerry Wood as the 4th starter in the playoffs? Could he go for 4-5 innings with Marshall and the rest backing him up? Thoughts are welcomed.

Keep the faith folks. The fact that we're backing into the playoffs should indicate this year will be different. Believe!

Trachsel won't make the rooster. Marquis will probably get a start, but it's going to be Zambrano, Lilly, and Hill all the way. I'd rather have Wood in the pen. I'd rather him pitching every other day then 1 time in a series.

Marquis would get a start somewhere, provided we survived long enough.

And I think there's little doubt he would get shelled.

The upsetting part of this is that Marshall was basically handed the fifth starter slot and couldn't hold it down. "Decent" would have been good enough. Now Hendry had to go out and trade for Trachsel who is just about as bad as Marshall if not worse, and who won't even make the postseason roster. I was really pulling for Marshall during last offseason and most of this season but his struggles really screwed this team.

Doesn't really matter because he wouldn't be used if he did make the rooster.

Not taking away from the conversation, but who is making the postseason pitching roster anyway? Zambrano, Lilly, Hill, Marquis, Wood, Eyre, Marmol, Howry and Dempster are locks. Who else am I missing?

I think Hart has a outside chance of making it.

Weurtz has got to be on it.

Wow. He does have the 2nd best ERA amongst our starting pitchers. I think he was more than Decent. I also think the only one who got screwed was Marshall, not Marshall screwing the Cubs.

I think he was doing fine. Of his 19 starts, only nine weren't "quality starts" and of those nine, most were due to a not pitching 6 innings. in his 19 starts, there were only 4 games where he gave up 4 or more ER, (2 more with 4 R). The fact that he started to get pulled earlier and eventually pulled from the rotation to me shows not that he has failed, but that he is having arm issues.

Marquis will get a regular turn in the playoff rotation. In fact, I'm willing to be he'll start game 3, if the Cubs get in the NLDS. I don't think Lou wants to have Lilly and Hill back-to-back. And thanks to recent decisions, I don't think there's much reason to believe Lou thinks Hill is a better option than Marquis.

I digress, but, any idea about the catching situation? Is Kendall really going to block Soto?

Honestly I think I would take Ohman over Hart. There might be a situation in the playoffs where we need a loogy. I think the only time Hart pitches would be garbage time. Just my gut feeling on that.

I also think Monroe is going instead of either Fontenot or Cedeno.

really no other options, IMO. Marshall hasn't pitched often enough to be fresh. Trachsel has never been "fresh". Monroe has no point on the roster, but it's possible he makes it over Cedeno.

Well, that would be Lou's fault for using Hart incorrectly then. He's clearly shown he can be thrown into a close game. Ohman has shown the opposite. I too would love another LH pitcher, but you gotta take the best 25, and Ohman's not among them.

That's the playoff roster I hope to see, too. Except that it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Craig Monroe take the place of either Felix Pie or--gulp--Matt Murton. And Kevin Hart might get bumped for Will Ohman. Though I'd rather have Hart as a long guy out of the pen if/when Jason Marquis' start goes only two innings.

it's limited duty, but Hart's OPSA for lefties is 0.071

No chance that Wood gets a playoff start. He hasn't started a game in over a year and missed over half of this year before he was ready to return. He's in the bullpen because he can't go long enough to start.

In case of a blow out knocking out one of the Cubs starters, I'd rather have Hart eat most of the innings instead of wearing down the pen 1 inning at a time. The Cubs righties have been good vs. lefties.

They need 2 middle infielders off the bench, they need Pie as a defensive replacement late/pinch runner.

Who starts in CF against a LHP?

Something tells me that Lou will pitch Marquis over Hill in the playoffs. I would hate that. I have zero confidence in Marquis. Hill hasn't been good but I at least have more confidence in him over Marquis. I also hope Trachsel is done here. I don't want to see his face again.

If we have a 12 man staff in the playoffs, Jim Hendry should be fired on the spot. You're only using four starters, so that should move us down to 11. Really, with all of the days off under the new format, there's no reason to have more than 10 pitchers, although I suspect they'll go with 11.

I'd have all 7 outfielders on the playoff roster - Soriano, Murton, Floyd, Jones, Monroe, Pie, and Ward

Jones, who I would start vs. Lh'ers even with Monroe on the roster.
