I have another question. You were in sec 215 mind telling us what row and how far you zoomed in on most of the pictures? I'm trying to find a camera that will do what you did and easily be able to take it to games. Action shows where they aren't blurry and I can zoom in like that would be great!

I was in row 5 in section 215. Most of the action shots were zoomed all the way in. I also needed to crop out a lot of extra stuff with many of the pictures. The camera is certainly not small enough to fit in a pocket but is still compact enough to carry in a small camera bag. That is what I brought into the game. Hope that helps!

Thanks again for all the compliments. Glad everyone is enjoying the pictures.

As siuc said, the optical zoom part is key. As far as crisp action shots, look for an action setting. Most cameras will have a setting with a quicker shutter and reduced exposure time, where fast-moving objects show up more clearly (this works both in day games and under the lights, but sometimes it's harder to get this setting to come out clearly at night games, and it's definitely higher quality in day games).

I was in SF sitting at a similar vantage point, but probably a good 100-150 feet farther away, and 12x optical zoom was still plenty to take pretty good action shots. It even came out clearly enough that, after taking the picture, I was able to crop it at an additional 2 or 2.5x zoom without losing much of the quality. Here's an example of before and after the digital zoom from farther away seats (deliberately shrunken) on the same picture:

So the optical zoom and action setting should do fine in getting you good shots. Remember to share whatever you end up getting!

I was thinking of doing the dame thing lol! How much did it end up running you?

Garwilly, I've been reading reviews today and it does sound pretty nice. I think I'll order from Newegg for $349 and get a case and charger.

One thing I would like to know is what ISO those pictures were shot at and if they were on super quality and how much of the action you cropped out to get that shot of soto?

Thanks!

Here is the original image (resized) but not cropped nor photoshopped (I bumped up the color saturation a little bit and also used "unsharp mark" on the final product) at all. All I could find for the ISO was it was set on Auto. The shutter speed was 1/640 and aperture was 4. I used the P function on the camera but did not make any changes. And I always shoot at the highest setting possible. One trick that I find helps greatly is to always use the viewfinder rather than the LCD screen. It helps to keep the image much more still and helps reduce the blur because you are holding it so close to your body. With the Soto shot, I kept my left eye open to watch when the pitch was coming and used the right eye to focus on the batter. Hope that helps. Very cool that so many are snapping up these cameras. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. It's easy to use yet still is still very customizable for those that like to shoot outside the automatic setting. I'll be glad to help answer any questions that I can for those newbies out there. I've had mine about 6 months but I still have so much more to learn.

I use the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3. It has a 10x optical zoom and auto ISO (up to 3200). It takes GREAT low light pics w/o a flash and unlimited mpg video. I bought this camera while I was at the 2007 WSOP in Vegas. I got mine off the Circuit City website for $269

Here's a review:

I'm not sure I'd buy anything from somebody who calls themselves Evil Monkey and has 666 posts. Call me a little superstitious but.... :priest:
