    • It won't; these are still the Cobs, and somehow they'll find a way to choke it away

I'm getting a feeling of deja vu now. The Cubs clinched on the next-to-last day of the season in 2003, and the same could very well happen this year. The difference is that this year the Saturday game is on WGN, whereas in 2003 many of us outside the Chicago area couldn't see the DH at all because of the Fox blackout. I may get my wish to see the clincher on a WGN telecast and be able to see the postgame coverage, but on Saturday rather than today.

I obviously don't want to be too picky here, but I'd love to see the Cubs clinch and be able to celebrate on the field rather than by watching the Brewers lose. Which is what will happen if we win tomorrow and they lose.

Len said the game's been moved to Fox on Saturday. 3:55.

Cubs.com shows the new time but shows it as being carried on both Fox and WGN. Fox just has to give up the blackout; they can't yank it from under us this close to gametime when it may be the clincher.

On my tv guide, WGN does NOT have the game.

Cubs.com shows the game on both Fox and WGN. The Fox Sports website shows it as being on Fox only. The local listings for my area on tvguide.com and the listings on DirecTV both show the Phillies game on Fox and the Cubs on WGN. All I can say is the game DAMN WELL BETTER be on WGN or I will not be responsible for my actions. I'd probably need to stay away from NSBB for awhile because I'd be using language guaranteed to get me banned.

I really, really don't think it'll be on WGN...good luck with it!

Perhaps this is just wishful thinking on my part, but the game time was changed so late that maybe the normal blackout rules have to be waived. Fox's own website states that the games to be televised the last two weeks of the season are wild card games to be announced one week in advance. Since this change was announced two days in advance, not a full week, they may have had to agree to waive the blackout in order to get the time switched. After all, it would be grossly unfair to WGN to yank it from them and leave them scrambling with such short notice, not to mention the fans (who, of course, Fox and MLB don't seem to give a damn about anyway). Maybe WGN can't televise the game on the local feed but can on the nationwide superstation feed (at least in areas where Fox isn't televising the game). I'm just thinking (or hoping) that this late change is treated as a special situation.

Of course, the Cubs could clinch tonight and make it all a moot point anyway.

If I remember correctly, after last Sunday's game, Len and Bob said that Saturday's game would be on both WGN and Fox

That rings a bell. In any event, I sent an e-mail to WGN to try to find out, and if I hear anything back I'll post it. At this time the websites for WGN, TV Guide, and DirecTV all show the game as being televised on WGN, so I feel fairly good about the chances.

The more I think about it and recall some of the details concerning the similar situation in 2003 the situation is coming a bit clearer to me. I believe what will happen is that the game will be televised on WGN, but not on Extra Innings, so anybody with a cable system that has Extra Innings but not WGN will be out of luck unless the Cubs game is the game Fox televises in your area. Back in 2003 I remember the clincher was shown on FSN Chicago, even though it was also one of the Fox national games. However, it wasn't shown out of market on Extra Innings. Perhaps the blackout only applies to Extra Innings, not the scheduled telecasts on local stations.

I won't be too upset if the Cubs and the Brewers win tonight, cause that would give the Cubs the chance to win it and celebrate on the field tomorrow.

All evidence I've seen points to it being televised on WGN. I think I can come back in from the ledge. :D

I thought I remember a commercial or something during yesterday's WGN telecast where Len and Bob said they'll be back here (meaning WGN) on Saturday. Not sure though as I wasn't paying too close attention.

The same would be true if they both lose tonight, but I'd prefer winning. I'm actually hoping for that scenerio, because not only would the players be able to properly celebrate, but we'll be able to see all the postgame coverage on WGN (I'm sure there would be an extended 10th Inning show if they clinch tomorrow).

Completely agree. I'd like to see the Cubs and Brewers match each other tonight (preferably the both winning since it would mean the Cubs actually got a win) for that very reason.

I'm not willing to bank on that, especially because tomorrow is probably the hardest game of the series. I do think it will end tomorrow (I'm not sure if it will be with the Cubs win or the Brewers loss) after getting to a magic number of 1 tonight. If I had my preference though, I'd like to finish it tonigh.

I think I was worrying over nothing concerning the WGN telecast. I thought Andy's post that started me going was a new announcement about a start time change that was just announced. However, it was just reiterating the information that Len and Bob had been mentioning all week. And they did clearly say that the game would be on both WGN and Fox. There's no doubt in my mind about it now.
