in all seriousness every year its Santana and this year is no exception. Hes got my vote.

I still can't believe Colon won it over him a few years back, Santana should have each Cy Young since 04.

Beckett will win. I wish Bedard had stayed healthy down the stretch. He may deserve it anyway. Would have led the league in Ks, BAA, and pretty close in WHIP and ERA.

Fun fact. Until this season, a Red Sox or Twins pitcher has lead the league in ERA+ every year since Roger Clemens (176) in 1998 with Toronto.

Pedro Martinez (four times), Johan Santana (three times) and...Joe Mays.

Carmona? Seriously? He shouldn't even be a candidate.

I'd vote for Santana.

Why shouldn't he be a candidate? I don't think he should win but I think he is top 5.

Why not Fausto Carmona?

I'm not saying he's been the best or should win it, but why the sentiment that he shouldn't even be a candidate?

EDIT: He does have the best ERA+ in the AL.

And IMB answered the question in the next post.

I can go along with top 5, but the distance from a guy like Santana to Carmona is so huge that he really shouldn't even be close.

There's next to zero chance that a guy with a 15-13 record wins the Cy Young over a guy who is 20-6.

and that's stupid

If he wanted a cy young so bad he should have convinced his team to score more runs for him

I'm sure the list is out there somewhere, but the worst W/L record I can recall a Cy Young winner have was Kevin Brown back in '96 when he won with a 17-11 record. Of course, his 214 ERA+ can speak to that.

Edited to add: And of course I mean W/L for a non-reliever winning the Cy.

It's not stupid. I know you want to get into an argument about the true value of W-L, but really, 15-13? Not happening, and even you have to concede that. The mass population would revolt.
