I don't mind it if Lou makes Hendry's move look pointless.

Considering that it was pointless, I'm gonna go ahead and say that Jimbo should swallow the ego and admit it and move on.

Making your boss look like a fool is a tough sell. I realize it's for the good of the team but this is a sticky situation imo.

I don't see how skipping Trachsel makes Hendry look like a fool. Hendry makes Hendry look like a fool. Trachsel pitching makes Hendry look like a fool. Lou deciding he's seen enough of Mr. Experience makes Hendry look like the guy who hired the right manager.

Can't Lou just come out and say something like "Trachsel gave us the innings we were looking for, blah blah blah, he did well in his role, blah blah."

You know, totally lie about it and make Hendry look better......then move on and do what's best for the team.

Basically I think that's what Lou is doing. He's skipping Trachsel's start next week. My guess is that Trachsel gets 2 more starts the rest of the year-one on Thursday, and one in the final week of the season.

I can't argue with you there as I agree but....I'm just not sure how that would play.

Well then he's not doing that at all. If Trachsel starts again, Lou isn't moving on and doing what's best for the team. If they are bumping guys up a day to adjust for the DH, then there's no need to start Trax as the 6th starter. The job would go to the most deserving candidate, which is clearly Marshall.

It doesn't have to play. I think people put far more stock into the "manager can't make that move unless he wants to embarrass his GM" theory. If Lou never uses Trachsel again, it would play as a manager knowing a pitcher isn't worth the starts.

I'm all about added recovery time for pitchers, espec. late in the year, so obviously I'm opposed to this.

Well, maybe a little stop in Albany will help you recover a little quicker?

Marshall going to start one of the games in the DH against the Cards. Per AM 1000

Old news, Cubs.com had that a day or two ago.

When I heard it I thought it was new because I thought that Trachsel was going as part of the DH. I don't know I'm all screwed up with this rotation.

I think Trax is going Thursday, then it's Zambrano (5 days rest), Lilly/Marshall, Marquis, Hill, Zambrano (3 days rest), Lilly (3 days rest)

This move is likely to go down as the "genius" or "folly" of Lou Piniella's short tenure with the Cubs. I think it's a poor idea - look at Jake Peavy used on short rest to face Arizona. Playing starting pitching matchups seems to backfire more than it helps. Kind of like a double header where the "surrender" lineup often scores more runs.
