How often does Jeff Kent have to be involved with this sort of stuff? Even more stupider is Colleti even considering moving some of these young guys to appease these veterans. I would be getting rid of Kent, Gonzalez and Wells in a heart beat.

How much veteran presence do they need. They already have Pierre, Penny and LGon who have won World Series. They have Kent, Frucal, Lowe, Garciaparra and Wells also. Is there a veteran quota that all champion teams must meet. Did the Cardinals have it last year, Did Florida have it in 2003.? Angels in 2002?

Sounds like a excuse for losing. Might as well blame the rookies who dont respect the game. Next will be the umps or manager. Everything except looking in the mirror and saying what can I do better.

If this turns into a Jones-for-Kemp deal somehow in the offseason, Kemp can move all the garbage cans he likes.

Does anyone think Hendry is smart enough and Coletti dumb enough to do Lee, Jones and Blanco for Kemp Loney and Martin. That would open up roughly $20 mil next year to sign Arod.

Soriano LF

DeRosa 2B

Arod SS

Ramirez 3B

Kemp RF

Loney 1B

Martin/Soto C

Pie CF

Not too bad of a lineup.

Heck, take Blanco and Martin out of it and it's still a great deal both short term( fixes salary situation to go after Arod) and long term, two great young players at lower salary. Plus the Dodgers get their coveted veteran leadership. Hendry could sell it as Lee for Kemp, with Jones and Loney throw ins to fill positions opened by the trade.

I read a couple of more articles on the Dodgers feud. I really think if the Cubs were willing to trade DLee, They could get Kemp and Loney in return. Some other stuff would have to be worked out, but I think its doable.

Dont get me wrong about DLee. I love him and wouldnt want to trade him. However JJones is not going to get use one of these guys. DLee is getting to back end of his prime. He has had only 1 season where he was great. If we could get 2 players under 24 who are already producing well in the majors. I think the Cubs should boldly make this kind of move.

But no I dont think Hendry would do it.

No Way the Dodgers trade Martin.

Heh, that's the story I got all my info from. Dodger fans are steamed that Kemp might be on his way out because of this.

I love how David Wells can comment on the situation after being on the team for a few weeks.

I'd love to see what's going on at Dodgerblues.

I'd trade Lee for Kemp and Loney. Hendry wouldn't. Lee is the leader of this team, and he won't leave the Cubs until he is ineffective.

I'd trade almost anything the Dodgers wanted for Kemp, Loney, and/or Ethier.

I would do it. But you'd rarely see any GM stick his neck out like that, especially on a big market team and with such a popular player.

No GM could be that dumb. I wouldn't wanna part with Lee, but if we could pull that off, it would go down as one of our one of our best trades this decade, right up there with Bobby Hill, Jose Hernandez and Matt Bruback for A-Ram and Lofton.

Yep, it must be those young guys supposedly disrespecting the game that caused the Dodgers to lose. It couldn't be, oh I don't know, the complete black hole they have at the top of the order with Furcal (.687 OPS) and Pierre (.683 OPS). It couldn't be the fact that Nomar has 400 AB's with a .700 OPS. Nope, gotta be the disrespecting the game.

Good god the Dodgers are so amazingly stupid.

While I don't disagree that Hendry wouldn't trade Lee, and I realize my post is complete daydreaming, I've seen GM's do things that make both sides of this seem like common sense. There's some pretty stupid people running baseball teams. Look at the example you used.

Think of the money the Dodgers are spending on Frucal, Pierre, Schmidt, Wolf, Garciaparra, Gonzalez, Hendrickson. I am sure there is more that I am not thinking of. Thats got to be like $60 million in suckage and injuries. I dont think there is any real surprise in how any of these guys are performing or their injuries. Yet its the young guys disrespecting the game that is causing them to lose

Exactly, someone's going to make a great deal. Wish it would be Hendry thinking outside the box with Lee.

To those who've suggested Russell Martin, he's not been mixed up in any of this and seeing as he's already the most popular Dodger in just his second year (inside the clubhouse and around LA), Colletti probaby knows better than to trade him.

Man, if DePo gets out of the NL West, I can see him trading an aging highly paid vet for someone in the Loney/Ethier/Kemp faction and taking out sweet sweet revenge on the Dodgers.

This proposed trade is very similar to the Penny/Choi for LoDuca/Mota/Encarnacion deal.
