What if the MLB made it such that once a player is drafted/signed by a team, that player could not leave. What would the Cubs' roster look like?

Horrible.

He wouldn't qualify because he wasn't drafted by the Cubs. He was drafted by the Orioles and traded to the Cubs in the Sosa trade.

Kyle Farnsworth would likely be one of the pitchers.

Lincecum was also drafted by the Cubs.

That really sucks

Drafted by us in like the 45th round, then drafted the next year by the Indians i think one round earlier. Staying in school did him wonders, all the way from late in the draft to #10 overall.

How good would the Nationals be?

A few years ago, Larry Walker, Cliff Floyd, Pedro Martinez, Moises Alou, and Randy Johnson would have made them pretty good.

And they would currently have Grady Sizemore.

Also Vlad and Brandon Phillips. The more I thought about it they wouldnt be as good as I thought. Pedro would be a Dodger with these hypothetical terms.

It would be kind of fun coming up with what everyone would look like. I predict the Cubs would have the worse offensive team.

The Cards would not be good either. Pujlos and Duncan, but I think thats it.

They'd have Plácido Polanco still, probably at 2nd. Wouldn't necessarily make them good, but it wouldn't hurt them.

Boston would have Hanley Ramirez at shortstop and would have had the services of Jeff Bagwell for all those years.

As was Micah Owings.

That one stung. I really liked Owings in the draft and was hoping the Cubs would spend the money.

Oh well, at least they got Eric Patterson between the two. Most people seemed to think they wouldn't get both.

I felt the same way. I was hoping we'd sign him, and was worried we'd end up with neither after Owings spurned us. Thankfully, EPatt signed.

The saddest part has to be that Hee Seop Choi and Brendan Harris would likely be our best candidates for our corner infield. Ew. I guess Hinske could play 3rd? But he sucks too.

Cards would also have JD Drew and Coco Crisp in the OF. Not great but better than the Cubs

LF - Chris Duncan

CF - Coco Crisp

RF - JD Drew

SP - Dan Haren

SP - Anthony Reyes

SP - Bud Smith

SP - Rick Ankiel

SP - Braden Looper

Those last three starting pitchers are tongue-in-cheek. My mind is honestly sapped trying to remember former Cardinal starters that are now elsewhere...
