Sooner than that. I finally figured out the authentication system on Sunday to get the free agent contest working. Now I have to fix the old premium authentication system to use the new phpbb3 authentication system and merge that code into phpbb3, which naturally uses an all-new templating engine.

I'm hoping to get that done this weekend as I have family coming in and staying at my house over Thanksgiving weekend. I won't likely spend any time on it once they're here.

don't you have any php gurus to help out?

Nope.

pssst

adblock plus on firefox blocks all the google ads.

pass it on

Um...... does Tim generate ad revenue per click or per load/page view?

Something to keep in mind re: adblock.

Per click. At least that's how it used to be I'm pretty sure.

Tim,

Is there an update on the premium section? If you need some help, I've worked with phpbb's before, but I'm in no way a "guru". I usually fiddle with it and read the documentation until I get the desired result. ;)

Seriously though, if you need help or another pair of eyes to look at it, I'd be willing to help out.

Let me know.

Great News!!!

The "gold" release of phpbb3 happened today. I will do my best to make the conversion over the weekend and catch up on the site work I'm currently running behind on.

Especially premium members, thanks for your patience during this whole process!

No problem.

Some Japanese dude diverted my attention anyway

Obviously, I didn't get to this last weekend.

So, barring any major news that day, I am scheduling downtime for the board Saturday evening so that I can upgrade the software to the gold version. Let's call it 7pm central time for when I'll bring it down.

Change in schedule. Got sick again. Much vomiting. Fever. Etc.

Will try to get it done at 7pm tonight if I'm still feeling better.

thx for your patience.

Looks like you got your priorities a bit mixed up.

They should be:

1. Get better.

2. Think about resheduling this conversion... maybe.

Sorry...just don't feel well and getting better for the kids during the holidays takes precedence. I'll get it done later in the week.

My apologies once again.

Not to detract from the warm and fuzzies right above me....but....

Is Premium ever coming back?

Seconded. What's it been, two months now?

yeah i know these things take time, but how many months has this been now? five?

i know there are a lot of premium members here, and it probably wouldn't be good to lose all of the premium income. but really, a big reason people paid for premium was to get rid of the ads, that was part of the agreement, and if someone really is unhappy enough about having to look at ads, they could claim a breach of contract.

i'm just saying, might be a good idea to get this done sooner rather than later.

Actually, iirc premium has existed since before NSBB started carrying ads.

Premium is there to support the site, not seeing the ads was just a fringe benefit.

I believe you're right about Premium existing before the ads started. And you're definitely right about the purpose of Premium being to support the site as opposed to getting benefits in return. It's similar to the premiums offered during PBS pledge drives: they're a token of appreciation, but not intended to be an exchange of equal value.

Thats all well and good, and yes people pay for premium to help Tim out, but we also pay for it to have the features offered by premium. I understand Tim is busy, but the amount of time this is taking is well, pretty ridiculous. Of all the member here if Tim doesnt have time, or needs the help to do it, Im sure somebody here would be willing and able to help. Just my 2 cents
