Why do our pitchers swing at the first pitch? I'd rather see Hill just take three pitches down the pipe.

I think I understand, but umps make me question myself... its supposed to be where the ball passes through the zone that determines whether a pitch is a ball or a strike, right - and not where it ends up (where the catcher catches it)??

If so (where it passes through/near K-zone), why is it umps most the time appear to make decisions on the ending location than when/where the ball is going over the plate?

I think that's called (1) framing the pitch by the catcher, or (2) laziness by the ump.

Someone more knowledgeable that I should affirm or deny. (Hey, that rhymes!)

It really doesn't matter. Just let Rich worry about pitching. That was not a strike to the riot.

It does matter. Why give Fogg a one pitch out when he was laboring last inning.

Terrible AB...

I really hope the light comes on soon for Pie.

Dunno - do the Orioles have anything the Cubs would like this go-around? He's lights out in AAA, but not so hot in the proverbial show. Change of scenery/less pressure perhaps?

We looked bad that inning.

One a side note, does anyone know who's pitching for the Reds on Tuesday? I'm going to the game and would like to find out. Thanks.

Corey never did that well past AA. Aside from his one year in Chicago.

It's supposed to be Harang-Zambrano on Tuesday.

2003 was going pretty well until that ACL tear. Makes one wonder - could he have turned the corner had he stayed healthy?

EDIT: Der - I didn't see that last sentence in your post. Sorry!

I don't know, because if memory recalls he was beginning to tail off then. Lack of plate discipline catches up to you at some point.

I'd trade Pie for Markakis but that's about it.
