Just played their 16th game in a row, and the mediocre offense has turned into an absolutely terrible offense. I'm hopeful that we can get a split in Colorado, end this road trip 2-5 (yuck), get a much needed day off, and get things rolling again at home against Cincinnati.

Just tossing it out there. 20 games in 20 days SHOULDN'T be anything that an MLB player can't handle, but it really does seem like it's affected us.

I agree, but Helen Keller could swing the bat better than any of these morons with RISP :P

Or maybe, just maybe they're just a crappy over paid team that happened to get on a nice long hot streak against a bunch of other crappy teams and now they're showing their true colors.

The Cubs are who we thought they were.

They're pressing with Soriano out. We didn't really think they weren't going to struggle at all, did we?

They're going to peak at just the right time; this is the year baby

July was pretty much the textbook definition of fool's gold. We won all those games despite a team-wide .700 OPS (our lowest month all season), and that's carrying on into August, where we currently have a .696 OPS for the month. Really, our offense isn't any different than it was last month; we were just hitting exceptionally well with RISP and that was skewing our W/L totals. The team is still hitting .277 with a .769 OPS with RISP, so I wouldn't be surprised to see this offensive regression continue, especially when you compound this with our woeful lack of power (we're now T-14th in the NL in HRs hit, with the Giants. We're ahead of only the Dodgers and the Nats...pathetic).

Add in Marquis and Marshall coming back down to Earth and you have a recipe for a lot of frustrating losses.

Remember when the Cubs were on their hot streak and nobody cared about homeruns?

"Who cares? We're winning!!"

Oops...

Yeah I have to agree with Have a Seat, Neifi. The Cubs in July were lucky to be over .500 with that offense, just a case of how short term situational offense can carry a team.

The real key is the pitching isn't as strong this month, when combined with the hitting its getting ugly.

Unfortunately the Brewers look even worse than the Cubs right now, heh.

Well, now we're injured too. With ARam down and Soriano out, I mean come on that's like losing Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison off the Colts' O. What do you think would happen to production? Down, down, down.

It's all those day games, plus Kaspar and Brenley as announcers that are killing the Cubs.

More like missing Steve McNair and Derrick Mason from the Ravens offense.

Remember, Soriano hadn't done much this season and was hitting like crap in the weeks leading up to his injury. Ramirez had also been a bit off his peak performance.

I thought Lou's plan to spread around starts to lots of different guys, and give the big guns regular days off, was done expressly to prevent this team from wearing down in August.

The Cubs don't have anybody who even has a chance to reach 155 games played this year. Nobody will get 150 starts (Lee might play 152 games - but at least 3 have already been as a late inning sub). This team has been rested up the whazoo, so there's no reason for them to be tired.

I think the problem is they don't have enough legit everyday players. They've got a bunch of role players all over the place.

I know but it's still 2 of the biggest producers we've got. Now the lineup just looks like ragdoll.....and Lee.

It's like a bomb exploded in our lineup and then we got put through a meatgrinder :)

Alright, my parallels and comparisons are bad. I'll stop.

Oh, because she didn't swing wildly at the first pitch?
