I like EPatt, but I don't understand this decision at all. Like TT said, Pie's leg must not be completely healthy. Otherwise, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Was a decision made?

Nothing official yet, no. I still think it will be Pie and the E-Patt blurb was just a snafu.

I agree the Cubs.com piece was probably a mistake... as it has already been changed to Pie. Since when has Carrie Muskat been known to be infallible?

Actually the front page of Cubs.com still says Eric Patterson.

Carroll did say that Soriano has a history of being a quick-healer though.

That's proof that he isn't all juiced up on the roids then... roid users tend to heal slowly from what I remember about my past injuries... er... i mean... uh...

Where? Did you refresh your page? It could be bringing up the old cache'ed page.

This is what I read at the bottom of the link regarding Soriano's injury: "The Cubs could call up outfielder Felix Pie from Triple-A Iowa, move Theriot into the leadoff spot, and see if someone can pick up the offensive slack. All of that will likely be decided on the plane ride to Houston..."

The front page:

The Cubs are back in action tonight at 7:05 p.m. CT when they open a seven-game road trip against the Astros at Minute Maid Park. Rich Hill starts for Chicago, while top prospect Eric Patterson is expected to be recalled to replace an injured Alfonso Soriano.

Even Cubs.com is inconsistent. Sorry I don't usually read those blurbs.

Boy, bringing EPatt up is sure going to help the outfield. The Cubs must be making DeRosa a full time OFer while Soriano is out.

Per Bruce Levine on Waddle & Silvy this morning, it sounds like Patterson will be primarily used in the outfield. Apparently he can't turn the double-play all that well.

Cubs now have a story of Patterson being called up:

The Cubs are expected to call up Eric Patterson from Triple-A Iowa and place Alfonso Soriano on the disabled list Monday.

Patterson was batting .299 at Triple-A Iowa with 14 homers, 23 doubles, 62 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. He has primarily hit leadoff all season, batting .300 in the No. 1 spot in the order with a .365 on-base percentage.

Patterson, 24, began the season as a second baseman, but has played the past 10 games in the outfield in both left and center.

He is the younger brother of former Cubs outfielder Corey Patterson, who is now with the Baltimore Orioles.

Soriano strained his right quad Sunday night running the bases and is expected to be sidelined at least two weeks and possibly a month.

IMO i think Patterson is gonna be okay being called up. Hope he comes up and plays well. We are due for someone to be called up and play good at the big league.

Since the Cubs have done the unconventional with about every callup this year, I'm going to say that EPatt comes up.

Nice call!

IF EPatt could play CF then this is something i could get excited about.

Get excited then (though at this point, I'd think Jacque and Pagan are better than him in CF).
