After hearing that Soriano is going to be out for a minimum of 2 weeks, and most likely a month, I think the Cubs are in serious trouble. Is there any chance Hendry can pull off a waiver deal for some help in the OF? I just don't see Murton or Pie getting a chance to do anything other than ride the bench right now. Anyone realistically out there that we can pick up to help us out? Seems to me that Church is unlikely to pass through waivers, and I don't see Hendry pulling off a Griffey or Dunn type deal.

You answered your own question with your last sentence. No one of any value will get to us. Dunn is too cheap to clear all those teams. Griffey probably won't, and neither will Church.

The only other OF that has a chance of clearing waivers AND filling a need for this team, won't be considered for PR reasons.

I could possibly see Griff clearing waivers. He's owed a pretty good amount of money still. We need a hitter now more than ever.

If a trade isn't made, at least Murton should get a chance to prove himself to Lou.

DUNN, DUNN, DUNN, DUNN!

There's been speculation the Reds may move him in a deadline deal. We have a need for a leftfielder. Let's get him!

Somehow I knew anything regarding a trade would involve Vance showing up with his Dunn campaign.

Yeah.......I'm sure he'll get past Bowden and the Nationals.

Uh no.

A lot of people here seem to not fully underatand the waiver process.

Piazza has allegedly cleared waivers. Just how awful is he behind the plate these days? It's not like throwing out runners can be an issue, since Kendall can't throw anyone out either.

I started another topic, but it fits here as well. Could Shannon Stewart be available? If so, I would like to see the Cubs make a move for him to help ride this loss out.

I don't understand the undying love for Dunn around here. He's a terrible left fielder that strikes out 180+ times a year. Yeah he gets on base, but what's he going to do when he's up in a pressure situation against a good closer... STRIKE THE F**K OUT!!!

I'd love to see his numbers against a pitchers that are considered above average.

What happened to Soriano?

Strained his right quad running from first to third. Out for at least a month.

*at most a month

What we want/need is a Griffey - or *grumbles* a Dunn - which means we'll end up with a Jay Payton, if anyone.

And now with Soriano gone at least 2 weeks, that leaves just one true "power bat" in the lineup on a regular basis - ARam. Although, its not like our HR numbers have been astronomical or anything before this.

In regards to Sammy Sosa, er - "The only other OF that has a chance of clearing waivers AND filling a need for this team, won't be considered for PR reasons." - I could live with that kind of deal IF it were for just the remainder of this season (w/ a possibility of being looked at being kept on for next year, but *hopefully* unlikely), and with how he's hitting LHP. True, the RF defense would be pretty much nonexistant, but its not much better with Floyd out there - right?

You forget which team you root for. :(

He also scores/drives in over 200 runs per year.

Who needs that?

I think Griffey could because of how much of his contract is left.

Also, and this isn't directed towards you, but what's the deal with the team option on Dunn's contract if a team picks him up? I would assume that if he's traded, that the option would be voided and he would be a FA after this year. But in the unlikely scenario that somebody claims Dunn and the Reds say 'go ahead and take him' what happens with that option since he technically wasn't traded?

The Brewers will block it.

How? We are currently beneath them in the standings.

Brewers couldn't. Cards could -- or one of the WC teams below us. I'm not going to get excited about a waiver deal unless the guy actually clears through first.

He doesn't actually have to clear waivers. He just needs to get past all the NL teams who have a worse record than us.

Jim Edmonds-OF-Cardinals Aug. 6 - 10:28 am et

Jim Edmonds said during an interview Sunday that he would be open to a trade if the Cardinals feel it is in the best interest of the organization.

"I'm just saying: If for whatever reason things change here and they want to move me, I'm not going to sit here and be stubborn about leaving," Edmonds said. "I'm an organizational guy. I'm here for the organization. I always have been. If they wanted to do something, I'd listen." Edmonds is under contract until the end of the 2008 season.

Oh, there's some tangible bad blood between Edmonds and the Cubs, I'm not sure how the fans would react to that. Didn't Edmonds say Wrigley is the worst place to play a baseball game in the majors?

Countdown to interesting love/hate relationship development in 3.....2......1...... 8-)
