Why not? The why the White Sox are trying to dump him, we could get him for cheap. real cheap. While he's been absolutely misserable for the Pale Hose all season, Cubs may be able to catch lightening in a bottle, as the cliche goes considering hes never pitched consistantly against the NL, and hes definitely post season tested. I dont know exactly how the waiver trade system works, or how complicated it is, but how about Ronny Cedeno and Will Ohman for Contreres and cash considerations.

1. Non-waiver trade deadline has passed, so all players would have to clear waivers.

2. WHY? You admit that Contreres has been bad, yet your willing to give up 2 players for him? Are you a Sox fan?

I admit hes been bad so far, but some guys need a change of scenery, and more importantly, leagues. Ohman and Cedeno wouldnt be giving up much, as Ohman sucks and Cedenos job belongs to Theriot. Id be happier if we could get our hands on Vazquez, but I never believed that the Sox were serious about moving him.

This thinking is what led us to the Kendall trade, and look how that's turned out so far.

Oh there's no question he'd clear waivers. He's owed $20 million and he sucks. I'd rather bring up Juan Mateo and have him start than actually trade some living human beings for Jose Contreras.

Contreras has at least 2 years left in his contract doesn't he? He's 50 years old and sucks.

I'd rather sign Jose Lima.

OUCH!!!

There are of course benefits to this idea.

Kendall overall with the Cubs: 237/341/316/657. However, 313/421/438/859 the last seven games and 300/382/400/782 the last 14 (per baseballreference.com). I don't know how much credence I put into "change of scenery" and it's likely Kendall will return to his previous putrid play. But, as of right now, Kendall is actually producing and I'd say the trade has turned out well so far (well, excepting that it's possibly costing Soto a chance to produce more).

That said, I am vehemently against Jose Contreras.

Are you kidding me? He's been absolutely dreadful since the 06 All-Star break. I would have preferred to get a guy like Matt Morris to provide some insurance if someone in the back-end of the rotation falters down the stretch. Contreras is ready to hang them up, and I'm loving the fact the Sox have to pay him $10M next season!

That's a pretty small sample size. When I made my comment, I should have made it clearer that I think Kendall will eventually regress while he's blocking a promising player. Contreras would 1) suck, 2) cost a lot of money, 3) block one of our more promising young starters.
