Sounds to me like the Cubs are starting to get into the Brewers heads.

"Every time we turn around, we're getting a question about the Cubs or how we're feeling," Hall said. "Every time we turn on the TV, it's how well the Cubs are playing. We want to go out and win. It's all about winning ballgames. Whether the Cubs are on us or not, there would still be frustration. It's something you have to learn how to control."

I beat you by one post...:)

But he added a personal comment to it!

Just for fun, a sampling of Brewerfan comments on this....

About a week ago, both of these clowns said the fans were in panic mode. Now they are fighting in the dugout. Priceless!

i don't think Estrada is going anywhere, when ever they acquired him Melvin said the reason why he was so attractive is because he was under Brewers control for 2 years. Now that was before we all realized he doesn't hustle, can't take a pitch and can't throw out Gilbert Brown. Yost on the other hand might be on the clock.

Just to sum up all that we saw, FSN pretty much replayed what they caught in the postgame;

It looked like Graffy and Yost were yelling at each other, with Yost being much more upset and being held back by Estrada and Sveum, then as Graffy walked away, Estrada started yelling at someone down the tunnel and Sheets and Graffy held him back. I'm not sure if Estrada was yelling at Yost or who.

On one level I'm glad to see the frustration is there with them, because they have been putting up this "everything is fine, we're in first" attitude. It could be a cataylst, it could be a sign that they can't work things out. We'll have to wait to see I guess.

As for if we'll ever know more than that, I doubt it, and I think it should stay a clubhouse issue anyway. I'm just going to cross my fingers that they can bleed it out and hit the reset button.

hey, now all we need tomorrow is for Yost to go on a kicking and screaming tantrum at third base, including kicking dirt on the ump, and all will be well!

A note to Ben Sheets:

In the event of any further dugout discretions: GET AWAY AND DON'T GRAB ANYTHING!!!!!!!

I for one don't understand how some on here as well as the 1250 postgame show can sit and continue to pin stuff on Ned. There are many reasons why, and I'd like to list a few of them here, as I truly believe this altercation was a good thing.

--Estrada is a clubhouse cancer, the guy is with his 4th team in 7 seasons. There is a reason that organizations keep passing on a .300 hitting catcher, obviously character is one of them.

--"Key contributors" hitting .245 & .212, a power bat with 9 home runs and only 42 driven in

--4 of your 5 starting pitchers with an ERA over 4.70.

--The absolute collapse of the back end of the bullpen. July ERA's for CoCo's at 4.66, Turnbow at 6.10, and Villanueva at 6.75

All in all, it was time for some type of venting/blow out session. This one just happened to be in the dugout and get caught on camera. I find it hard to believe that all this blame could be placed on Ned, and this thread would turn into something about firing him and keeping Estrada. I know it's like a swear word on the board to criticize Melvin, but remind me what bat he added at the deadline to help an offense that can't score after the 4th inning? He has forced Ned's hand to be that of guys producing like Weeks, Jenkins, Suppan, Vargas, Mench, Counsell, and Graffanino. To me, before everyone goes jumping on the managers throat take a step back and look at the whole picture.

My cousin's friend is Estrada's neighbor in Georgia and he has partied with him!

I am sorry, this adds nothing to the discussion.

Only if he knows about some kind of trade.

I hope this doesn't have the same effect Lou's tirade/Barrett's fight had on us.

Better damn well not.

I am not disputing that Barrett/Lou's tirade effected the Cubs, but every Cub player I heard interviewed said those two things had nothing to do with it. Or maybe they just don't want to admit it because they are professional athletes who can do it themselves.

Yep, I heard all the players' comments about it not having an effect at all.

Call me crazy, but I think it did have some effect. Not that I think it was the only thing, far from it. But a fight like that, it can affect the emotional state of the team. Some guys get real serious about it, some just sort of laugh, some might be relieved at the release of tension -- and some might just get more angry. Change the emotional state of guys, eh -- maybe you affect what happens on the field a little bit.

It's not something I think can be predicted, nor do I think it would ever be the sole reason for anything, or even the biggest factor, ever.

just for reference...Kruk's prediction was that Biggio would have more HR than Bonds in August....but this sounds a little different than Barrett and Z goin at it....this is the manager...i see no positives for the brewers outta this if they are fighting with the guy making decisions...that being said take two of three against NYM fellas

Thanks for that, I think he said he'd have 7 or 8, IIRC, while bonds would have no more than 5.

Agreed, it drives me nuts when I see the media play up the whole Barrett/Z fight or the Piniella outburst as the turning point. The Cubs didn't play any better until three weeks after both of those incidents, when we played the White Sox at the cell. I think Marmol's emergence in the bullpen has much more to do with this winning streak than anything else.

June's hot streak was mostly caused by the offense hitting way better than it had the rest of the season. July has just been about situational hitting since the Cubs had a well below average offense in July(.700 team OPS) but have scored a ton of runs.

The 10 games leading up to June 2nd we were on a 6 game losing streak and had lost 8 of our last 10 games. After Piniella's blowup, June 3rd and onward, we won 5 of our next 6 games, and won 6 of 10. Going from a .200 winning pct to .600 isn't playing any better?

Said center fielder Bill Hall: "I'm sure that nine out of 10 people are going to say that this is the same thing that happened to the Cubs. It's not about that."

Hall was referring to a June 1 incident at Wrigley Field between Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano and catcher Michael Barrett, the latter of whom eventually was traded. Since that day, the Cubs are 35-20, and on Wednesday, they moved percentage points ahead of the Brewers in the division.

"Every time we turn around, we're getting a question about the Cubs or how we're feeling," Hall said. "Every time we turn on the TV, it's how well the Cubs are playing. We want to go out and win. Actually, Bill - you're on us.

Karl Ravach predicted the Cubs would have the biggest lead in the NL come the end of August of any division leader. These are the potential cracks that could lead to that prediction :-).

Wasn't that Tim Kurkjian's prediction? Or maybe he just agreed with Ravich (who does seem like the only sane member of BBTN, sometimes).

See, Brewers get in a fight and less than 24 hours later they are back in 1st place (at least until they play tonight!). These dugout scraps always work out.

It's obvious the Brewers are trying to steal the Cubs technique of fighting. Then a trade, then getting ridiculously hot. We should've copyrighted the dug out fight!

Crew gets in a big fight, finally start showing some emotion, and then the young kid pitcher comes out and mows down one of the best offenses in the NL.

Smells like a Crew hot streak comin' on.

If he sucks after the smackdown he put on us, I give up.

is yost viewed as bad manager? it seems they've had multiple reasons for their collapse since the ASB, i dont know how you could put that on the manager.

This is the first time I have seen Yost being cast in a poor light. I've always thought Yost was much better than the recent managers the Crew has had. I also haven't heard Milwuakee/Madison media being real critical of Yost, even in previous years when the Crew weren't in first place.

If he had lost the team, then they were doing a good job of hiding it, IMO.

A lot of people think Yost is terrible at in game managing especially his bullpen usage, haven't really seen anyone complain about his player managing.

there's been blow-ups lately with the 8th and 9th inning guys starting each inning with no one on (iirc last saturday at busch). cant put that on yost.
