In the first game of what is sure to be an epic three game set, the Cubs and Mets do battle in a match of division leading teams. Two men will tow the rubber, matching each other pitch for pitch:

Mr. Hernandez (7-4 3.02 ERA) comes from the village of Villa Clara, Cuba. His hobbies include not making it past the sixth inning and being old.

Mr. Zambrano (14-7 3.47 ERA) hails from the town of Puerto Cabello, Venezuela. His hobbies include punching team mates and pointing at the sky.

Only time will tell who emerges victorious. Let's go Cubs!

I'll be gone all night and probably most of tomorrow morning, so I had to be on top of it.

My family is coming to town tomorrow and we will be in attendance. Please keep pitching well Z.

I will be in attendance for the 12th time in my life. The Cubs are 6-5 in my previous 11 meetings (won the first five, lost the next five, then beat the Giants on a Burnitz walk-off single in '05).

If they win it was because of me.

With Z going in the opener, the Cubs have to take this game. It makes winning the series so much easier.

Sean Marshall murders Hernandez!

yep that was a Sunday night ESPN game last year where Marshall HRed and then blew a 6 run lead. Cliff Floyd hit like 2 HRs and the Mets had about 3 grand slams.

We badly need Z to go at least 7 innings, and 8 would be fantastic. Then when we are up 5-0 we can bring Kerry Wood into the game to end it....Sounds like a plan to me

I like it. If the Cubs win, I'm crediting this.

EDIT - I guess I can credit good baseball to the players whom credit is due too.

I just played this game on MLB2k7. If it's any indication, the Cubs will win 8-1 with DLee hitting a pair of doubles and Zambrano pitching a 2 hit 9 strikeout CG in only 110 pitches!

Did you set the game to only last 5 innings?

Those are some ridiculous numbers. The only surprise is that the K:BB ratio is closer to 2:1 than it is to 15:1.

I can't wait for Kerry to come out of the bullpen. Since I'll probably have to miss it if he pitches tomorrow, this will probably be one of the few times I'll actually go back and watch the game on MLB.TV after the fact.

When he warms up, the crowd will go nuts and I can't imagine the reaction he's going to get when he gets the call from the pen and starts walking/jogging to the mound.
